Causes of rural and urban poverty
The causes of urban poverty are due to the limited employment opportunities, degraded environment, bad housing and sanitation. Almost half the urban population are temporary residents, who have travelled to find work since work is scarce in rural areas. Even a chunk of permanent residents come from out side Dhaka.

Dhaka isn't a city designed around tourists, so there's not all that much to do if you're looking to sightsee. However, I enjoyed the sites we did see, including Lalbagh Fort, Dhakeshwari National Temple, Shaheed Minar, Curzon Hall, and the Liberation War Museum. The city was also cleaner than I was expecting.

Kolkata has one basic advantage over Dhaka—it has many more times the number and length of streets which we do not have. The bustling city also has a metro rail service (ours will be coming a few years later) which carries a bulk number of passengers.

Historical names and nicknames
The city was renamed as Islamabad (City of Islam) and continues to be used in the old city. According to Roman historian Pliny the Elder, the Port of Chittagong is mentioned in the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea as ?????????? (Gongabazaar) meaning "the Market of the Ganges".
