Cedar Creek has a number of large coves, primarily on the east side, that are very good for skiing, swimming, or fishing. On typical weekends the water can get rough due to boat traffic and wind, but the coves are well sheltered and you should be able to find some calm water.
The southeast side of Cedar Creek Lake includes the towns of Star Harbor, Malakoff, Caney City, and Log Cabin. This is the farthest side of the lake you will travel. This side of the lake also has the deepest water at the lake. Malakoff has gas, grocers and restaurants.
The fourth-largest lake in Texas, Cedar Creek Lake is more than 32,000 acres, 18 miles long and offers 320 miles of shoreline. Just 55 miles southeast of Dallas, the lake is a haven to both weekenders and permanent residents.

The predominant fish species in Richland Chambers Reservoir are hybrid striped, largemouth, and white bass, smallmouth buffalo, carp, blue and channel catfish, black and white crappie, and longear sunfish. Other species include yellow and striped bass, bowfin, flathead catfish, and alligator and longnose gar.
In Texas, the American alligator ranges from the Sabine River of East Texas to the Gulf of Mexico across the coastal marshes to the Rio Grande and west to around Interstate 35. This range includes about 120 counties with the highest concentrations occurring along the Gulf Coastal Plains.
