On July 5, 1947, the British Parliament passed the Indian Independence Act. It accommodated two territories states: India and Pakistan The head of the state was retained by the King of Britain until the full transition to Republic state. The partition was difficult and it fabricated fissure on the lines of religion.

Republic Day is a gazetted holiday in India and is celebrated on 26 January every year to honor the establishment of Indian constitution. The constitution was adopted by the Indian Constituency Assembly on 26 November 1949 and came into force on 26 January 1950 with a democratic system.
On 15 August 1947, the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru raised the Indian national flag above the Lahori Gate of the Red Fort in Delhi. On each subsequent Independence Day, the incumbent Prime Minister customarily raises the flag and gives an address to the nation.
On Independence day, the national flag is tied and sits at the bottom. The Prime Minister then raises it up and unfurls it. The motive is to honour the historical event of August 15,1947. Whereas on Republic Day, the flag remains closed and tied up on the top, which is then unfurled without pulling it up.
