But what happens if you fail an AP exam? Basically, nothing happens if you fail an AP exam. Whether you get a passing or failing AP exam grade, you can still go to college. Colleges do not take a look at the AP exam as the only a criterion for accepting or rejecting a student.
If you pay attention in class, do the reading, and understand the concepts, then the AP GOPO test is fairly easy and the course shouldn't be considered “hard” when compared with other AP tests.
Literature requires a lot more critical thinking in order to analyze the texts. It's really an individual preference that would make one harder than the other. If you really like reading, AP Lit will be easier, but if you're a good writer, AP Lang will be easier.

In general, I'd recommend AP Lang for students interested in basically any career path and AP Lit for students interested in reading, writing, and humanities. With either class, students will have to put in time and effort (and a good deal of reading and writing) to succeed.
In most cases, taking an AP® class is absolutely worth the effort. The skills you develop in an AP® English Literature and Composition class are ones that you'll carry with you throughout your entire educational (and professional) career.
