I will say this—as a general rule Orange County housing is more expensive and suburban on average than Los Angeles county. You can also find good value cities/neighborhoods in Los Angeles County that offer good affordable housing and good schools, which is harder to do in Orange County.
I always felt safe around Disneyland even way back in the 70's. And now the city has made the area feel very safe and resort like. If you are staying right in the "Anaheim Resort" area -meaning right around DLR- and the tip of Garden Grove, you should feel very safe.

Here's reality: Huntington Beach is among the safest large cities in America. Our violent crime rate is one-third the average U.S. city our size. In fact, in two of the past 10 years, we were the only large city in the entire country without a murder.
As all over the world, the richest neighborhoods are the nicest ones. The best coastal cities are: Newport Beach (Lido Isle and Balboa Island are absolutely gorgeous), Corona Del Mar and Laguna Beach. You do need to be a multi-millionaire to live here. My next favorite city, after these 3 coastal cities, is Irvine.
