Extra work doesn't necessarily get an actor noticed by casting directors or agents, but it can be a valuable way of gaining experience on set. Often a small but juicy featured extra role can make an actor noticeable in a scene, and it's always helpful to add another credit on one's résumé.
On Monday, Deadline reported that Netflix was giving each of the main players a significant pay raise for season three. The young stars, who reportedly earned about $30,000 per episode over the first two seasons will be bumped up to between $200,000 and $250,000.
Six Steps to Become a Movie Extra

But, typically, they'll get paid by check (once in a while, it'll be in cash at the end of the day if a production doesn't want to claim it on their tax). But, a non-union extra will get paid the current minimum wage, except for rare times that they might get a little bit more (commercials sometimes pay a bit more).
Movie extras pay: How much do movie extras make? Union extra: The union is the Screen Actors Guild (SAG), and the minimum daily rate for a union extra is $148. This would be for a regular working day of 8 hours, which means you would often be paid as much as $180 with an extended working day.
The SAG Low Budget Agreement applies to films with budgets between $700,000 and $2,500,000, making this the SAG pay scale of most independent films. Under this contract, actors must make a SAG day rate of $630, or $2,190 per week. If you're working with some actors who aren't in the guild, don't worry.

On a low-budget indie fare, DPs often take home $2,000 to $5,000 a week. On TV productions, the range is $5,000 to $8,000 a week.
In general though, for a smaller, non-broadcast TV level production, you can expect to pay anywhere around $50-400 an hour for an actor. Or you can also think of it as something like $250 per actor per (8 hour day), in a market which is priced at the lower end of the spectrum.
According to Schedule X, Part I, in the SAG-AFTRA handbook reference section, general background actors in large cities like Los Angeles and New York typically make $170 per day in 2018-19, with a projected 3 percent increase for 2019-2020.
The standard pay is usually about £50-100 / $100-150 per day. If it's hourly, which is very rare, then you'll be paid minimum wage or something close to that, but that never happens because extras are expected to stick around for however long the production takes, and that may be well into the night.
In groups of six to eight, each actor receives $435.38, and in groups of nine or more, each person gets $360. Pay for the fourth through the 13th use of each commercial is $107.61 for three to five people, $96.82 for six to eight and $79.34 for nine or more.

When the director starts a scene and they are shooting, the only people talking are the principle actors with dialogue, and any secondary that interacts with them. Extras are directed to pantomime so as to not interfere with the sound being recording of the principles on set. There are exceptions.
Extras are paid a session fee of $342.40, regardless of where the commercial will air. To figure out an extra's hourly rate, divide the session rate of $342.40 by eight, the number of hours SAG considers the session rate to cover. Commercial extras earn $42.80 an hour for the first eight hours that they work.

An extra can be chosen to speak lines for a film, yes. Though once you agree to this, you are no longer an extra. You are now being paid by the same people paying the main actors instead of the company who manages the extras. There isnt any real trick to getting lines for a film without auditioning for a speaking part.
