Sun City is largely a casual but upscale destination and typical resort clothes – sneakers or trainers, sandals, jeans, sun dresses, shorts and T-shirts - are suitable for most areas. The Palace of the Lost City, built in 1992, was inspired by an ancient myth of an African kingdom that was lost to the jungle surrounding it. Today it stands within the remnants of a volcanic crater that erupted one million years ago, encircled by four mountains, and with a game reserve on its doorstep.
Sun International says they had to take a decision to temporarily close in line with new COVID-19 levels in order to protect not only visitors, but their staff and the local community. Group COO of Hospitality at Sun International, Graham Wood, says the restrictions make it difficult to operate.
Construction, which began in August 1990, took only 28 months to complete, a remarkably short period of time for a project of this breadth and complexity. At the height of construction, 5 000 people worked on the project.
