A City of Mississauga building permit for any structural framing. This will only be necessary if you are planning on doing some serious surgery on the ceiling joists, so you probably will not need one.
You don't require a building permit to widen a driveway, but you do need to follow these regulations.
A building permit is necessary when you wish to construct, renovate, demolish or change the use of a building.
The Building Code Act, 1992 is the legislative framework governing the construction, renovation and change-of-use of a building in the Province of Ontario. Ontario Building Code is a regulation under the Building Code Act. It establishes detailed technical and administrative requirements.
Below are some projects that require a building permit: Adding another floor, sunroom, attached garage or porch to an existing building. Building a deck more than 60 centimetres above ground. Adding or removing walls, adding or enlarging new windows or doors.
Sheds should be a maximum of three metres high unless they have dual pitched roofs, in which case they can be up to four metres high. It has no verandas, balconies or any kind of raised platform as part of its basic construction. It has an occupied volume of no more than 15m squared.
All accessory buildings in the side yard require a side yard setback of not less than the minimum required for the main building. 0.5m from the rear lot line but no closer than 7.5m from the opposite boundary of the lane. Overhang projections (i.e. soffits and eavestroughs) are required to be 0.15m from property lines.
How far should a shed be placed from property lines? You typically can't build a shed within 10 feet of the rear property line and 15 feet from a side property line. There should be sufficient room between your shed and your neighbor's yard.
Accessory structures shall be not taller than 24 feet or the main house, whichever is lower.
Accessory buildings are outdoor structures such as attached or detached garages, sheds, playhouses, storage buildings, pergolas, garden structures, greenhouses, private studios, boathouses, pool houses, cabanas, and other similar residential buildings.
An accessory structure is a structure which is on the same parcel of property as a principal structure and the use of which is incidental to the use of the principal structure. For example a residential structure may have a detached garage or storage shed for garden tools as accessory structures.
Accessory structure may include a storage shed, dock, deck, patio, swimming pool, or tennis court but does not include a garbage or bicycle rack and the single primary access walk. Accessory structure includes a guest house without cooking facilities used for overnight habitation.
A detached accessory structure (gazebo, tool shed, etc.) that measures less than 10 square metres (approx. 108 square feet) does not require a building permit.
No openings are permitted in a wall within 4 feet of a property line. Refer to the 'Building Section' on page 7.

As an on title home owner, you are legally entitled to do your own electrical work. However, please be safe and abide by the laws. Take out an Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) permit and have an inspector check your work.
A fence is a barrier that encloses an area or divides all or parts of a property. You do not need a Building Permit to construct a fence unless you are installing a swimming pool or replacing an existing pool enclosure (fence).
It can take 15 days for a small building, 20 days for a large building and up to 30 days for complex buildings to get a response from Toronto Building Department. Providing the application meets construction requirements & submitted drawings provide the necessary information, it will be approved.

There are consequences for not getting a permit. You could face a fine, or the municipality may force you to remove walls, ceilings, cabinets and other finishes so that an inspector can determine if the work complies with the building requirements. In the worst case, they'll have the renovation removed entirely.

A Building Permit is required for the construction of detached structures that are greater than 10 square metres (108 square feet) in area. Garages and carports attached to the principal dwelling, regardless of size, are considered to be additions and always require a Building Permit.
The 30” Rule. As a simple rule, you need a permit for any deck that is higher than 30 inches off the ground. This rule applies to most decks. Anything lower than 30” is often considered a patio or “porch deck,” and no permit is required.
If you plan to build a deck that is up to 1.5m high, you don't need a building consent but you may still need a resource consent, depending on the rules in the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan. If your deck is more than 1m high, it must have a handrail.
For habitable structures like homes, the setback is 5 feet.
All decks greater than 30" above grade must have a guardrail. If you choose to install a guardrail on a deck lower than 30", you must still meet code requirements. Decks attached to single-family detached homes are regulated under the rules of the International Residential Code (IRC).
It's legal as long as it's not attached to the house. If you attach your deck to your house, you have to get permit. If you attach a deck made with deck block to your house, your deck will not be stable. It has to be floating (not attached to ground or wall).
A building permit is still required if you are intending on constructing a floating deck.
