Lots more to do in general in Clearwater Beach more people on the beaches, etc. St. Pete is great as well but we've always found it way more laid-back than Clearwater, less things to do, and fewer people on the beach.
St. Pete Beach is longer and more narrow, and Clearwater Beach is shorter and wide, but they both offer sugary sand, a wealthy of family entertainment options, and great dining.

Were on the beach near Shoreline Island Resort (we stayed there). Recommend spending the $15.00 to rent an umbrella or cabana and chairs for a day (they are bright yellow and operated by a very nice guy named Joey.) Clean beach.

While many other Florida beaches close at night, Narcity contacted the Clearwater Parks and Recreation's department to confirm that beach access is available 24/7. So don't forget your bathing suit. Beach rules still apply at night, and swimming is only allowed within the marked "Safe Bathing Limit" areas.
Considering only the crime rate, Clearwater Beach is as safe as the Florida state average and as safe as the national average.
On Madeira Beach, some visitors said their coastal oasis has been polluted with clouds of smoke and cigarette butts. The beach has cans with signs encouraging visitors to toss their cigarette butts, but as of right now, it's not against the rules. Visitor Joann Blunk said she loves the idea of a smoke free beach.
