How to unhide Facebook chat messages
- Select the “messages” link from your homepage.
- Click on “More” at the top to pull down the drop-down list then select “Archived”.
- Click on the “Unarchive” icon next to the person whose chat you want to unhide. Now the chat message is visible again.
Go to Settings, then Notifications, and tap on Messages. Scroll down to the bottom and you'll see an option called Show Previews. Tap the little toggle button so that it is no longer green. Now when you get a text or iMessage from someone, you will only see the name of the person and not the message.
Now, let's see how to find these hidden Facebook messages on your iPhone.
- Open Messenger app on your iPhone.
- Tap the Me icon at the right bottom corner on an iPhone.
- Tap People > Message Requests.
- In this display, you'll see any unread Message Requests.
To completely turn off an app's notifications, tap Settings > Notifications, tap an app, then toggle off the Allow Notifications switch.
Pick up your iPhone to wake it up, or tap the screen (or press home screen button on the bottom for pre-iPhone X models). 2. From the lock screen, swipe up from the middle to see your notifications. If your iPhone is already unlocked, you can swipe down from the top to see your old notifications.
The quickest way to mute all sounds is to flip the ring/silent switch on the left side of your iPhone. You can still play audio, but your iPhone mutes all notifications. Incoming calls, however, will still stop music playback; your phone won't ring but the music will stop until the call goes to voicemail.

- Open your phone's Settings app.
- Tap Apps & notifications. Notifications.
- Under "Lock screen," tap Notifications on lock screen or On lock screen.
- Choose Show alerting notifications only.
If the 'Allow Notifications' option for Messages app is disabled, there may be problems of not receiving message notifications on iPhone. Go to Settings > Notifications > Messages to toggle on Allow Notifications. Restart your iPhone to check if iPhone can receive notifications.
Option 1: In your Settings app
- Open your phone's Settings app.
- Tap Apps & notifications. Notifications.
- Under “Recently Sent,” tap an app.
- Tap a type of notification.
- Choose your options: Choose Alerting or Silent. To see a banner for alerting notifications when your phone is unlocked, turn on Pop on screen.
Chose Hide Alerts. Now you will not see an alert if a message is received to that Message thread. If you open Messages you will see that there is a Do Not Disturb crescent moon icon next to the conversation. You will still be able to see the last message and you will be able to open that thread.
How to hide alerts to new Messages
- Go to Settings > Notifications and scroll down until you find Messages.
- In the Messages section scroll down to Show Previews. By default this will be set to Always. Tap on that and choose: Never. This will mean keep the alert private even if your iPhone isn't locked.
Go to Settings, then Notifications, and tap on Messages. Scroll down to the bottom and you'll see an option called Show Previews. Tap the little toggle button so that it is no longer green. Now when you get a text or iMessage from someone, you will only see the name of the person and not the message.
Hide Alerts (previously Do Not Disturb) keeps notifications from appearing on your device when a new message is received on the message thread.
