Deleting the selected file (Quick Delete)
- To delete a file, select it using the . or / button.
- Open the Quick menu screen by pressing the QUICK. button while the Home Screen is open when stopped.

Phantom power, commonly designated as +48V or P48, was designed to power microphones without using bulky external power supplies such as the ones required for tube microphones. It's a way of sending the DC electrical current required through a balanced XLR cable.
Charge the battery or connect the AC adapter before using the unit. Slide the battery case cover on the back of the unit to open it, and insert the DR-1 battery that was included in the box. Open the cover on the left side panel, and use the included USB cable to connect the unit's USB port to a USB port on a computer.
Use the included USB cable to connect with a computer USB port. Power can be supplied through the USB cable provided with the unit or an AC adaptor (sold separately: TASCAM PS-P515U).
It does not have interface functionality like Zooms. I use the mics on mine as a simple talkback from time to time, but that is via the headphone output into my interface--so without an interface you are out of luck. You'll have to just record into the DR-05 and transfer the files afterwards.

Connect the Tascam to a computer using the USB cable. Use the – button to select 'Storage' and press enter (>). The computer will recognise the Tascam just like a digital camera or memory stick. The sound files are in the Music folder and you can either copy and paste or drag and drop them onto the computer.
How to Transfer Sound From a Voice Recorder to the Computer
- Insert the USB cable into the USB port on the side of the voice recorder.
- Connect the opposite end of the USB cable to one of the USB ports on the computer system.
- Power on the voice recorder.
To power on your DR-05 handheld recorder, make sure you hold down the power button for a couple of seconds. Also make sure the Hold switch is not engaged. This will prevent the DR-05 from powering on.
How to import or transfer files from the Digital Voice Recorder using Sound Organizer.
- Connect the Digital Voice Recorder to the computer using the supplied USB cable.
- Open the Sound Organizer software.
- In the Sound Organizer window under Import/Transfer, click IC Recorder.
While pressing the /MENU/8 and / buttons, turn the unit on. The unit will launch in PROGRAM UPDATE mode and the update file will be shown on the screen. This screen shows the firmware update files in the “UTILITY” folder on the unit.
