Not entirely, unless you jump from a block high then walk as that will destroy the crops. So, when you jump on the crops, you may sometimes break it, but by jumping from a block high your height is higher than 0.75 blocks, so it breaks the crops if you land on them.
Wheat is a prime example. It can grow without water, but it will grow much faster if you keep it watered. If your soil is left untended for too long and you put no plants in the ground, it will turn back into dirt after a while.

Lily pads are broken and drop as an item when water flows on it. Mobs cannot spawn on lily pads.

You can place blocks ontop of the tilled dirt and when you break it it will be untiled. A good choice would be a block you can instantly break, then to place blocks everywhere you want to until and break them all at once. A third option would be just to break the tilled dirt and place it back down, it will be untilled.
Farm blocks can be fertilized by nearby water which speeds up the growth of crops planted on them. Water will fertilize all farm blocks within 4 blocks of it. This distance extends diagonally which means a single water source block will fertilize an entire 9x9 farm when placed in the center.
They can't; farmland is partially transparent, and mobs need to spawn on an opaque (solid) block.

How to Grow Crops in Minecraft
- Find a well-lit area made of grass or dirt. If the area isn't well lit, craft some torches.
- Craft a gardening hoe and use it. You can right-click the ground to use the hoe to till farmland.
- Locate a water source nearby, and then right-click it while holding a bucket.
- Lock up your farm.

- Step 1: Eradicate Chickens. make sure you have no chickens in the area.
- Step 2: Build a Platform. build a 6x7 dirt platform and one more with 3 blocks in between.

How to Prevent Water from Freezing in Minecraft
- Place a block above the water source, such as a half slab. The height doesn't matter, and only the area above the water needs to be covered.
- Surround the water block in a light source such as torches, which will prevent the water from becoming ice.
Melon seeds can be planted only on farmland. Over time, they grow into a stem and produce a melon on any adjacent dirt, grass block, farmland, podzol or coarse dirt. If a melon is already occupying an adjacent dirt/grass or farmland spot, the stem does not grow any more melons until the melon is removed.
This is because you right click on a dirt block. To let it stay in that state it needs water. Its like irrigation.
Typically an in-game day or three. It's somewhat random. If my saplings haven't sprouted after a day (in game), I replant them.
Crops will grow faster if the farmland they are planted in is hydrated. Bone meal can also be used to increase the speed of growth by causing the seeds to randomly increase their stage by 1 to 7. If your seeds just wont grow make sure they're exposed to the sky and make sure they have direct access to water.
