How to Fix Network Cable Unplugged Error
- Fix 1 – Change Duplex Settings.
- Fix 3 – Disable Ethernet Connection and Perform a Hard Reboot.
- Fix 4 – Uninstall Ethernet Adapter Drivers.
- Fix 5 – Update Ethernet Adapter Drivers.
- Fix 6 – Check Hardware for Issues.
Here is how to do it:
- In Device Manager, select Network adapters. Then click Action.
- Click Scan for hardware changes. Then Windows will detect the missing driver for your wireless network adapter and reinstall it automatically.
- Double-click Network adapters.
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager. To see a list of installed network adapters, expand Network adapter(s).
Try reinstalling your ethernet drivers:
- Back in Windows, go to the Start menu's Search field, enter device manager , and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Network Adapters section.
- Right-click the ethernet adapter (hint, it's the one without Wi-Fi or wireless in its name) and select Uninstall.
- Confirm by clicking OK.
Most ethernet ports will have green lights next to them when the cable connects and there is good signal strength. If you plug in the cord and see yellow or red lights, there is a problem. If the light doesn't light up at all, the port may be broken or the cord is bad.
Ethernet is almost always faster than Wi-FiBut an Ethernet cable lets your devices send and receive data almost instantaneously. As long as your Ethernet cable reaches, you'll see little to no loss in speed. You can compare Wi-Fi and Ethernet speeds by running a quick speed test using both connections.
When you unplug/replug the Ethernet cable, what happens is that your network adapter is disabled/reenabled. An Ethernet adapter, like a wireless adapter can connect to different networks but if you disable the adapter, it doesn't matter which network you plug into your system, it will not connect.
At the prompt, type "ipconfig" without quotation marks and press "Enter." Scroll through the results to find a line that reads "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection." If the computer has an Ethernet connection, the entry will describe the connection.
If you see a red message “WAN Port is unplugged” on the status page of the router, that means the modem is NOT plugged into the WAN Port of the router properly. Most TP-Link routers use 192.168. 1.1/192.168. 0.1 as their default LAN IP address, it may be conflicting with the IP range of your existent ADSL modem/router.
The only thing you can do is to check the connectivity pin-to-pin from one side to the other. Easiest way to do this is tightly coupling a sawing needle to the ends of a multimeter probe with the sharp side sticking out. And sticking the sharp point to each contact slot on the RJ-45 connector and test for continuity.
