To align data label text:
- Select the series of data labels to align all the text in the series. Select an individual data label to align its text.
- Choose the Format Data Labels option and choose the Alignment tab, shown below.
- Click Apply to see your changes or OK to accept your changes.
Select the decimal number cells, and then click Home > % to change the decimal numbers to percentage format. 7. Then go to the stacked column, and select the label you want to show as percentage, then type = in the formula bar and select percentage cell, and press Enter key.
A data series is a row or column of numbers that are entered in a worksheet and plotted in your chart, such as a list of quarterly business profits. Charts in Office are always associated with an Excel-based worksheet, even if you created your chart in another program, such as Word.
To format data labels in Excel, choose the set of data labels to format. To do this, click the “Format†tab within the “Chart Tools†contextual tab in the Ribbon. Then select the data labels to format from the “Chart Elements†drop-down in the “Current Selection†button group.
Select where you want the data label to be placed. Data labels added to a chart with a placement of Outside End. On the Chart Tools Layout tab, click Data Labels→More Data Label Options. The Format Data Labels dialog box appears.
Right-click your chart, and then choose Select Data. In the Legend Entries (Series) box, click the series you want to change. Click Edit, make your changes, and click OK. Changes you make may break links to the source data on the worksheet.
To display data point labels outside a pie chart
- Create a pie chart and display the data labels.
- Open the Properties pane.
- On the design surface, click on the pie itself to display the Category properties in the Properties pane.
- Expand the CustomAttributes node.
- Set the PieLabelStyle property to Outside.
Excel doesn't offer a box-and-whisker chart. Instead, you can cajole a type of Excel chart into boxes and whiskers. Instead of showing the mean and the standard error, the box-and-whisker plot shows the minimum, first quartile, median, third quartile, and maximum of a set of data. The median divides the box.
For this we will be using an attribute of an Excel chart which is Up/Down bars. This option enables the chart to view the data range in floating up down bars. Floating bars in the chart is a good way to compare data range in one chart.
Creating a Stock Market Chart
- Click the Insert tab on the ribbon.
- Click Recommended Charts.
- Go to the All Charts tab.
- Select Stock in the list of chart types.
- Click Volume-High-Low-Close.
- Click OK.
Right click on the Max point, and choose Data Labels. Select the label and choose the Series Name option, so it shows “Maxâ€, and choose the bright blue text color. Format the marker so it's an 8-point circle with a 1.5-pt matching blue border and no fill. Right click on the Min point, and choose Data Labels.
On the Layout tab, in the Analysis group, do one of the following:
- Click Lines, and then click the line type that you want. Note: Different line types are available for different chart types.
- Click Up/Down Bars, and then click Up/Down Bars.

You can distinguish specific data points, such as high or low values, by using markers.
- Click a sparkline.
- On the Sparkline Design tab, in the Show group, select the markers that you want, such as high and low points. You can customize marker colors by clicking the Marker Color button.
