What is Paste Values? Copying and pasting values is probably one of the most common tasks we do in Excel. Paste Values will paste the values ONLY of the copied range WITHOUT formulas and formatting. This allows us to extract the numbers or text from cells.
Copy: Ctrl+C. Cut: Ctrl+X. Paste: Ctrl+V.
To paste without formatting, press Ctrl+Shift+V instead of Ctrl+V. This works in a wide variety of applications, including web browsers like Google Chrome. It should work on Windows, Chrome OS, and Linux. On a Mac, press Command+Option+Shift+V to “paste and match formatting” instead.
Paste Special will not function if your web browser is causing the conflict. Windows Internet Explorer (8-9) do not conflict with the Excel 2010 Paste Special option. Third party Add-ins can cause a variety of issues, one of then being, conflicting with the Paste Special option.
The steps to only paste values in Excel follow below:
- Select the cell(s) with formulas and press Ctrl + C to copy them.
- Select the destination range.
- Press Excel's paste values shortcut: Ctrl + Alt + V, then V.
- Press Enter.
But did you know there's a keyboard shortcut for Format Painter? Click in the text with the formatting you want to apply. Press Ctrl+Shift+C to copy the formatting (make sure you include the Shift as Ctrl+C only copies the text).
Use the Ctrl+Shift+V key combination to paste the character format. You can sorta kinda remember to use Ctrl+Shift+C to copy character formatting and use Ctrl+Shift+V to paste, because Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V are the copy-and-paste shortcut keys.
On the Home tab, in the Clipboard group, click the arrow under Paste, click Paste Special, and then choose one of the options below. Tip: If you'd prefer to use the keyboard you can press CTRL+ALT+V to invoke Paste Special.
