Google's Hangouts chat and video conferencing app is going away this year, at least for some users. On Tuesday, Google announced that its Google Hangouts service is shutting down for G Suite customers in October 2019. It will be replaced by Hangouts Chat and Hangouts Meet.
An often overlooked problem is an incorrectly set SMSC number. The SMSC is responsible for sending SMS messages from your device. Because the other person's SMSC is forwarding the messages directly to your SIM number. But your text messages fail to send, because your texts are not reaching your carrier's SMSC.
I have an android phone and get a red triangle when I text certain numbers, this is caused by an app called Hangouts for android phones, when you use the phone text to text a smart phone, which as Hangouts installed as the default messaging service you will get a red triangle on your ordinary phone text.
If you're having problems using Hangouts from a mobile device, the troubleshooting steps are the same as they are for the desktop Web-based version of the software. Check you have a strong Wi-Fi or data connection and uninstall and reinstall the Hangouts app to reset the program's settings and file cache.
Right-click on their profile name. Select the option that allows you to view their contact profile. If the user is simply offline, you will be able to see their Gmail address. If no information is present within their profile, then that user has blocked you.

Despite being available for free on both iOS and Android, Google Hangouts is riddled with privacy and security concerns. Though it does encrypt hangout conversations, it doesn't use end-to-end encryption — instead, messages are encrypted “in transit”.
Step 2: Set up your new texting app
- Open the Hangouts app .
- At the top, tap Menu .
- Tap Settings SMS. SMS enabled.
- Select the text messaging app you want as the default. If you're using an older device, you might need to tap Default SMS app. If you don't see this option, set up your texting app in your phone's settings.
Click the “Search for People” text field at the top of the Hangouts panel and type in the name of the friend you'd like to talk to. Start chatting. Click on the name of the person you want to talk to from the search result and a chat window will appear at the bottom of the computer screen.
Hangouts does not provide phone numbers. To receive phone calls, text messages, and voicemails in Hangouts, you need to set up Google Voice phone number or a Google Fi Phone service account, which are currently only available in the U.S.
Hangouts is free in the U.S. and Canada and offers low international rates, so you can make voice calls, send text messages, and even have group video chats from your mobile device or computer without paying a dime.
When you use Google Hangouts for calls, the calls VoIP - if you are using a mobile phone on wifi, the calls are made over wifi, if you using your cellular connection, the calls will be made over the internet using your your data. When you use the Google Voice app on a mobile device, the call be traditional phone call.

- Launch Droid Transfer on your PC.
- Open Transfer Companion on your Android phone and connect via USB or Wi-Fi.
- Click the Messages header in Droid Transfer and select a message conversation.

Send a text message
- On your Android device, open the Voice app .
- Open the tab for Messages .
- At the bottom, tap Add .
- Enter a contact's name or phone number. To create a group text message, add up to 7 names or phone numbers.
- Enter your message, and tap Send .
Android's built-in SMS Backup
