Anyone with any corporate or consumer email address can sign up for Teams today. People who don't already have a paid Microsoft 365 commercial subscription will have access to the free version of Teams.
A chat-based workspace that combines instant messaging, voice, video, calling, and file-sharing, Microsoft Teams enables users to be more productive by using Office apps they're familiar with – like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, SharePoint, and more – right within the platform.
To use the chat feature during a meeting in Teams, simply click the Show conversation button: The chat box will appear on the right: Type your message in the chat box and click the Send icon to send your message.
According to your error message “Administrator has disabled chat for this user”, this problem may due to the chat function is disabled by admin. If you are an admin, please sign in to Teams admin center, then click Messaging policies.
If you're unable to use chat using the Chat icon, your school's IT Administrator may have turned it off. If that's the case, you can still ask your teacher a question. Use @mention with your teacher's name in a channel.
How to disable Chat in Microsoft Teams
- Open the Microsoft Teams admin center by going to teams.microsoft.com.
- Click on Messaging policies.
- Click Add to create a new messaging policy.
- Give your policy a name and enter a description.
- To turn off chat switch the Chat toggle to Off.
Click New from the toolbar and choose: Folder, Document, Spreadsheet or Presentation, to create a new file (or folder) and save it into the Team Channel Document Library (all Team members can create or upload documents). 3. Click Close to save the file and return to Teams.
Chat is the core messaging functionality of Microsoft Teams. When having a one-on-one chat you can message, call, screen share, and add other people to the conversation all from a single interface. Conversations in chats, either with one person or a group, are all linear.
Re: Moving Folders SharePoint/Teams@adam deltinger That is correct, as you cannot move folders in Teams you have to move them in share point.
Reorder Teams channelsNo need to scroll to the end of the channel list to find your channel. Just click on your Teams channel and drag it up to reorder your list.

- Open My Documents folder, Select View - Details.
- Either (A) move Date column to the far left or (B) right click on date column, select "More" and move Date to the very top (Move Up button)
- Click on Date to sort by most recent.
- Select View - Options.
- Select View tab, Apply to all folders.
In SharePoint Server, click the Library tab, and then click Create view. On the create or edit a view page, scroll down to Sort. In the Sort section, select the First sort by the column drop down and choose a field.
