To import a notebook to OneNote that you've previously downloaded, do the following:
- Unzip the folder found in the file you previously downloaded (see “Export a OneNote notebook” earlier in this article).
- In any modern Web browser, go to the OneNote Notebook Importer.
- On the screen that opens, click Import.
Add a OneNote notebook to Teams
- To start from scratch, select Create a new notebook, add a name to the Notebook name field, and click Save.
- To add an existing notebook, select Browse notebooks, choose the notebook and section, and select Save.
- To add a link to an existing notebook, select Paste a OneNote link, add the address, and select Save.
What is OneNote? OneNote is Microsoft's digital note-taking application. It is available for free on Windows PCs and is also included as part of SharePoint/Office 365 subscription.
Do the following:
- In OneNote, open the notebook that you want to share on OneDrive.
- Click File > Share.
- Select a location for your notebook, or click Add a Place and then sign into your OneDrive account.
- After the location you want appears in the list, click to select it.
On Windows 10, the Backup folder for your notebooks is located at C:Usersuser nameAppDataLocalMicrosoftOneNoteversionBackup. On Windows Vista, the Backup folder for your notebooks is located at C:Usersuser nameAppDataMicrosoftOneNote12.0Backup.
Do the following:
- In OneNote for Windows 10, open the notebook you want to share.
- In the upper right corner of the app window, click or tap Share.
- In the drop-down box on the Share task pane that opens, select This notebook.
OneNote cannot create a new notebook at: Possible reasons include: - The specified location is not available. - You do not have permissions to modify the specified location.
OneNote 2016 (the desktop version) can export pages (or page ranges) or sections as Word Documents ( docx ) or Word 97-2003 Documents ( . doc ). These are editable in other programs, for example OpenOffice or LibreOffice.
Tips:
- Follow a specific structure. Your first OneNote page should tell users how to use and update the OneNote.
- Use Tags properly. They make it easy to find to-do lists, etc.
- Chose an organization structure. At TierPoint, we group our notes by application/technology. Make OneNote work for you, not the other way around.

Microsoft OneNote is built around the metaphor of a spiral-bound notebook—though of course you can have multiple notebooks in OneNote if you like. Each notebook is divided into sections, and each section contains the pages where your notes are located. You can have as many notebooks as you have storage space for.
Microsoft's OneNote is free for all users, whether you're on a Mac, a PC, an iPhone or iPad, or an Android device. OneNote is a note-taking app that can help you organize your work and ideas. Newer versions of Microsoft 365 come with OneNote built-in, alongside staples like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
You can do this by simply hovering over the first instance of OneNote, pressing and holding the SHIFT key and clicking the left mouse button. This will open a duplicate instance of OneNote. By doing this, you can work on two different Notebook sections simultaneously.
Hi, If OneNote suddenly opens everything as "Read-Only" that usually means that either you haven't activated the product or you're using a Trial version of OneNote that has expired. Check the Help menu.
OneNote uses 128-bit AES encryption to secure password-protected notebook sections. Write down your passwords and keep them in a safe place if you think you may not be able to remember them. Important: If you forget your password, no one will be able to unlock your notes for you — not even Microsoft Technical Support.
Navigate to the notebook you want to save, right click on it, and click the Save a copy option. Note: If a dialogue box appears asking for you to allow OneNote to access your info, click Yes to continue. The Save a copy dialogue box will open. Select Save to a Microsoft Account.
Remove a co-owner to remove their access.
- Sign in to Office.com using your school email and password.
- Select the App menu (a square containing 9 squares), then select All apps to see your full app list.
- Select Staff Notebook.
- Select Add or remove notebook co-owners, then select the notebook you're updating.
Install Google Drive app for desktop and select target folder where your OneNote files are ( which is generally in C:userspublicdocuments ) and sync that folder. Your notes will automatically be synced with Google Drive.
Open the
OneNote notebook that you wish to
transfer. Click on the
notebook tab.

- In OneNote, click File > Info.
- Right-click the URL shown below the name of the affected notebook, and click Copy.
- In your web browser, press Ctrl+V to paste the copied URL.
- Press Enter to load the notebook in OneNote Online.
Add students to a Class Notebook in OneNote
- Sign in to Office.com with the log-in provided by your school.
- Select Class Notebook, then Add or remove students in the Class Notebook Wizard.
- Select the notebook you're adding students to.
- Type in a student name, email address, or group name to add student(s) from your school.
Open the notebook for which you want to manage permissions in OneNote web App. Select the File tab, click or tap Share, and select the Share with People button. A window appears with sharing options. Below these options are the permissions for the notebook.
