If iCloud Photo Library has been enabled with "Optimize Storage", disable "Optimize" and wait for the photos to download back to your iPhone, if there is enough storage. Then disable iCloud Photo Library. Now import the the photos to your Mac and delete them from the iPhone.
iPhoto is an older (now obsolete) image management app, Photos is its replacement. Apple stopped the development of iPhoto. At the end of March you will no longer be able to order print products from Apple using iPhoto. While iPhoto is still working, keep it installed, if you are still having iPhoto Libraries.
First insert the CD, DVD, or flash drive. Launch iPhoto and go to File > Import to Library. Navigate to the device that has the photos and select the items that you would like to import. You can select a folder, a single file, or if you press Command key while clicking you select multiple photos.
In the Finder, navigate to your iPhoto Library file, which is typically in your user's Pictures folder. Control-click on the folder and select Show Package Contents from the pop-up menu. In the new window that opens, you'll see a folder named Auto Import.
Launch iPhoto and hold down Option to select a library, but then hold down Command and Option when clicking Choose.

- Close Photos and re-open it with the library you want to merge into.
- Drag the exported photos into the Photos library or use File > Import to select and import them.
You can keep both photos and videos in the Photos app, just like you could with iPhoto and Aperture. Once you've upgraded to iCloud Photo Library, Photo Stream as we've known it is replaced by All Photos. If you do want to flip on iCloud Photo Library, Photos provides an estimation of how much storage it will take.

Accessing the iPhoto Picture Files and Originals. You can either access the directory from Go To Folder command within the Mac OS X Desktop by hitting Command+Shift+G or by opening the directory manually: Open /Pictures/ and locate the “iPhoto Library” file. To use the export method:
- Open up the first iPhoto library.
- Select the photos you want to move.
- Choose "Export" from the menu.
- Select either Current (exports with edits) or Original.
- Select a folder to export the images to.
- Import the photos to an existing Photos library.
- Repeat for each iPhoto Library.
Make sure that your Mac is still uploading photos. Open the photos app and then go to the word Photos (next to File and Edit in the status bar) and then click on preferences. Then go over to the iCloud tab and you'll probably see that photos are uploading but the blue bar isnt moving or present.
iPhoto stores its copies of your pictures in a special folder called iPhoto Library, which you can find in your Home → Pictures folder. (To find your Home folder, begin in the Finder and choose Go → Home.)
By default, photos and other files transferred over AirDrop are stored in the Downloads folder. You can navigate to this through the Finder by navigating to 'Go' -> 'Downloads, or through the Dock of the Mac OS. Either way, clicking on the Downloads folder will allow you to find where AirDrop photos go on your Mac.
Import Photos from iPhone to Mac with Photos/iPhoto
- Connect your iPhone to your computer with the USB cable.
- The Photos app on your Mac will automatically launch.
- Click the Import tab and select the photos you want to transfer to Mac.
- You can click Import XX Selected or Import All New Items to transfer photos to Mac.
How to Transfer Photos from iPhone to Computer (Mac)

Photos is just a direct link to the photos portion of Google+. It can show all the photos on your device, plus all the automatically backed up photos (if you allow that backup to occur), and any photos in your Google+ albums. Gallery on the other hand can only show photos on your device.
