IPv6 is extremely important for the long-term health of the Internet. Switching from IPv4 to IPv6 will give the Internet a much larger pool of IP addresses. It should also allow every device to have its own public IP address, rather than be hidden behind a NAT router.
Restart the router and modem. A problem with either your internet service provider or router might result in a lack of connection to an IPv6 address. If you have two network devices, restart the modem first, then wait a minute or two and restart the router. Check for network device driver updates (Windows).
But IPv6 is being adopted at a glacially slow pace. The reasons for the gradual adoption are simple to understand. It's expensive. When they were developing IPv6, the Internet Engineering Task Force decided that, in order to implement new features in IPv6, the protocol would not be backward compatible with IPv4.
For Android users
- Go to your Android device System Settings and tap on Network & Internet.
- Tap on Mobile network.
- Tap on Advanced.
- Tap on Access Point Names.
- Tap on the APN you are currently using.
- Tap on APN Protocol.
- Tap on IPv6.
- Save the changes.

When you run a server from home running IPv6 makes it easier - no need for static NAT translation as long as double NAT or DS-Lite is not used to connect your IPv4 host because static NAT translation will no longer be possible. So only IPv6 will allow you to run a Server at home.
IPv6 opens the door to new servicesNetwork address translation (NAT) is used on IPv4 networks to allow multiple devices to share the same IP address. Not only does IPv6 eliminate the need for NAT because of the abundance of IP addresses, IPv6 does not support NAT at all.
IPv4 & IPv6 are both IP addresses that are binary numbers. IPv4 is 32 bit binary number while IPv6 is 128 bit binary number address. IPv4 address are separated by periods while IPv6 address are separated by colons. Both are used to identify machines connected to a network.
IPv4 vs IPv6:Gaming Zones and even online gaming sites benefit hugely by having IPv6 connectivity since players can experience increased gaming quality despite many devices being connected to one single IPv6 address.
An IPv6 address is represented as eight groups of four hexadecimal digits, each group representing 16 bits (two octets, a group sometimes also called a hextet). The groups are separated by colons (:). An example of an IPv6 address is: 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334.
Your DNS server can be configured in the network settings of your Operating System. If you don't configure DNS in your Operating System, then you can set it in the router. If you don't set it in the router, then your ISP decides which DNS server you use.
Reverting to IPv4 from IPv6 on a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router
- Access your Linksys cloud account. For instructions, click here.
- Click Connectivity.
- Under Connectivity, click the Internet Settings tab.
- Click IPv6 then uncheck the Enabled box beside IPv6 – Automatic.
- Click the button.
You can easily find out by visiting testmyipv6.com. Once there, click the IPv6-only Test link. You'll know soon enough if your router and everything else is ready for the big transition. Unfortunately, should your PC fail the test, you'll have no way of knowing if the router is to blame.
Vodafone Does NOT offer IPv6 - Community home.
Under the Setup tab, click the IPv6 Setup sub-tab. NOTE: If the IPv6 Setup sub-tab is not showing, you might need to update the firmware of your router. To learn how, click here.
You can't (and shouldn't) disable IPv6 on the Xbox One. The Xbox One mainly uses IPv6 to transfer it's multiplayer data, however, if IPv6 is not natively available, it'll use Teredo to tunnel IPv6 through IPv4.
Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) is a network layer protocol which allows communication and data transfers to take place over the network. IPv6 came into existence in 1998 with the sole purpose to take over and replace IPv4 protocol one day.
Share the Article: The Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) is a protocol for use on packet-switched Link Layer networks (e.g. Ethernet). The Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is more advanced and has better features compared to IPv4. It has the capability to provide an infinite number of addresses.
virgin doesn't use IPv6 at all, so changing hub won't make any difference.
Run the following command from the Admin command prompt: reg query HKLMSystemCurrentControlSetServicesiphlpsvcTeredo If the output includes the following line, Teredo has been disabled: Type REG_DWORD 0x4 You can re-enable Teredo by running the following command from the Admin command prompt: netsh interface
To configure IPv6 LAN settings:
- Choose Networking > IPv6 > IPv6 LAN Configuration.
- Enter the following information to configure the IPv6 LAN address:
- Click Save or continue to configure IPv6 DHCP LAN settings.
- Enter the following information to configure the DHCPv6 settings:
By using IPv6 on your Xbox One, you should have less latency when playing multiplayer games, any data that you do transmit over the internet should be safer and more private, and in general any connections made by the Xbox One — either to remote servers, or peer-to-peer — should be faster and more responsive.
To configure the phone for IPv6, from the Android home screen:
- NOTE: Once you are done adding the new APN settings, you will need to restart the phone (power off then on).
- Touch the left most menu key in the bottom panel, tap Settings.
- Select Wireless & networks.
- Select Mobile networks.
- Select Access Point Names.
There are two main types of IPv6 WAN connectivity: native (Auto and Static) and tunneling over IPv4 (6to4, 6in4, and 6rd). Native – (Auto and Static) The upstream ISP routes IPv6 packets directly.
