Resize a chart
- To change the size manually, click the chart, and then drag the sizing handles to the size that you want.
- To use specific height and width measurements, on the Format tab, in the Size group, enter the size in the Height and Width box.
Right-click your chart, and then choose Select Data. In the Legend Entries (Series) box, click the series you want to change. Click Edit, make your changes, and click OK.
To format data labels, select your chart, and then in the Chart Design tab, click Add Chart Element > Data Labels > More Data Label Options. Click Label Options and under Label Contains, pick the options you want. To make data labels easier to read, you can move them inside the data points or even outside of the chart.
Click on a chart column or bar. Click again so only 1 is selected. Press the Tab key. Each column or bar in the series is selected in turn, then it moves to selecting each data label in the series.
Change the way that data is plotted
- Click anywhere in the chart that contains the data series that you want to plot on different axes. This displays the Chart Tools, adding the Design, Layout, and Format tabs.
- On the Design tab, in the Data group, click Switch Row/Column.
Legend. A Legend is a representation of legend keys or entries on the plotted area of chart or graph which are linked to the data table of the chart or graph. By default, it may show in the bottom or right side of the chart.
- Select the Data tab, then click the Filter command. A drop-down arrow will appear in the header cell for each column.
- Click the drop-down arrow for the column you want to filter.
- The Filter menu will appear.
- The Custom AutoFilter dialog box will appear.
- The data will be filtered by the selected text filter.
In Excel 2007, do the following:
- Select the chart.
- Click the Design tab.
- Click Select Data in the Data group.
- Click the Hidden And Empty Cells button (at the bottom).
- Select the Show Data In Hidden Rows And Columns option.
- Click OK twice.

To display percentage values as labels on a pie chart
- Add a pie chart to your report.
- On the design surface, right-click on the pie and select Show Data Labels.
- On the design surface, right-click on the labels and select Series Label Properties.
- Type #PERCENT for the Label data option.
Rename a data series
- Right-click the chart with the data series you want to rename, and click Select Data.
- In the Select Data Source dialog box, under Legend Entries (Series), select the data series, and click Edit.
- In the Series name box, type the name you want to use.
Add a data series to a chart on a chart sheet
- On the worksheet, in the cells directly next to or below the source data of the chart, type the new data and labels you want to add.
- Click the chart sheet (a separate sheet that only contains the chart you want to update).
- On the Chart Design tab, click Select Data.
Data labels are used to display source data in a chart directly. They normally come from the source data, but they can include other values as well, as we'll see in in a moment. You can even select a single bar, and show just one data label. In a bar or column chart, data labels will first appear outside the bar end.

After selecting the data series, single-click again on the last data point to only select that point. Then, Right-click, and "Format Data point" You can now add the label to just the last point. =)
Specify data ranges
- On the Insert tab, select the chart type you want.
- On the Chart Design tab, select Select Data.
- Click in the Chart data range box, and then select the data in your worksheet.
Here are the steps to insert a chart and use dynamic chart ranges:
- Go to the Insert tab.
- Click on 'Insert Line or Area Chart' and insert the 'Line with markers' chart.
- With the chart selected, go to the Design tab.
- Click on Select Data.
To do so, head over to Chart Tool Layout tab, from Plot Area drop-down menu, click None. As shown above in the screenshot above, that you can easily make it visible again by clicking Show Plot Area.
Hello, The easy solution is to right-click each data series, select "Format Data Series", and set both the line and marker to None. The trendline will remain; the original lines and points will be invisible.
Right click on the chart, click Save as Template from the pop-up menu, then give the template a descriptive name, and click Save. Next time you change data and the chart loses its formatting, right click the chart, choose Change Chart Type, click on Templates, select your template, and click OK.
In a line, scatter, or radar chart, do one of the following:
- To select all data markers in a data series, click one of the data markers.
- To select a single data marker, click that data marker two times. This displays the Chart Tools, adding the Design, Layout, and Format tabs.
