Accessing Microsoft PowerPoint and other core Office programs is free via the web, and all you'll need is a Microsoft account. Head over to Office.com and create an account, or log into one that you already have.
Microsoft's suite of productivity software -- including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint -- typically costs $150 for a one-time installation (as Office 365), or between $70 and $100 every year for subscription service access across devices and family members (as Microsoft 365).
Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) is the best option for anyone who needs access to the full range of Office apps and additional benefits on multiple devices. You can share a single subscription with up to six people.
Microsoft's Office Online is a completely free, web-based version of Microsoft Office. This online office suite is clearly competing with Google Docs, but it's also a potential replacement for the desktop version of Office.
It is possible to use Word, Excel and Powerpoint free of charge, though. Visit office.com from any web browser to access limited versions of these programs (you can also download free apps for your smartphone or tablet).
To help you make sense of the dozens of options out there, we've summarized the most important features of the best PowerPoint alternatives:

With the free versions of the apps, you can read your Word documents, use your Excel data and present with PowerPoint. Your documents will look as good as they do on your PC and Mac®, and better than ever on your iPad. With an Office 365 subscription, you can edit and create new documents with the iPad.
Microsoft Office apps (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) are free to download on the iOS app store. You can create, edit, open and print Office documents with your iPad or iPhone, but whether or not you have to pay depends on the size of your iPad's screen.
Students and educators are eligible for Office 365 Education for free, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and now Microsoft Teams, plus additional classroom tools. All you need is a valid school email address.
As of now, Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and Excel are available on all Chromebooks. Of course, Chromebooks don't run desktop Windows software. We're talking about the Android versions of these apps. You can download those apps on your Android-based phone or tablet right now, but Chromebooks run Android apps as well.

- Launch Using All Programs. Click the Windows "Start" button, and then select “All Programs.”
