The Visa Waiver Program (WVP) enables citizens of certain countries to travel to the United States without US visas. South Africa is not a VWP country.
Citizens of 39 countries and territories are eligible for visa-free entry into the United States under the VWP:

- Austria.
- Belgium.
- Brunei.
- Chile.
- Czech Republic.
- Denmark.
British citizens do not need a visa to visit the US, but they do need to apply online for an electronic authorization. All UK citizens need an ESTA to travel to the USA.

President Ramaphosa is allowing travellers from a select number of low-risk countries to visit South Africa during this initial phase of reopening as of 1 October. In other words, you can travel to a low-risk country, spend 10 days there and then be allowed to enter South Africa as a tourist.

Only eligible citizens can obtain a visa on arrival. The South Africa visa on arrival is granted to travelers who are visiting South Africa for tourism purposes. It is a single entry visa and allows a 30-day stay in the country.
Currently, travelers require a visa for South Africa from Nigeria. The good news for Nigerian citizens is that the South African immigration authorities plan to launch a new eVisa process for visitors from Nigeria which will greatly simplify the visa application process.
