Method 1: Position the page border relative to the outside edge of the page
- On the Page Layout tab, click Page Borders in the Page Background group.
- On the Page Border tab, click Options.
- In the Border and Shading Options dialog box, change the default setting of 24 points in the Margin area to a new measurement.
Insert frames into document in Word
- In Word 2010 and later version, please click File > Options > Customize Ribbon.
- In Word Options dialog of 2010 and later version, click Customize Ribbon from the left pane, and then check the Developer box in the right pane.
If you want to adjust where a full-page border is printed on a page, follow these steps:
- Choose Borders and Shading from the Format menu.
- Make sure the Page Border tab is selected.
- Use the controls in the dialog box to specify how you want the border to appear.
- Click on the Options button.
Click the File tab to go to the Backstage area. In the left navigation panel, click the Info category. On the right side of the screen, click the Properties drop-down and choose Show Document Panel. There you have it, four simple clicks to open the Document Information Panel in Word (or Excel or PowerPoint).
Change or set page marginsOn the Page Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click Margins. Click the margin type that you want. For the most common margin width, click Normal. Note: When you click the margin type that you want, your entire document automatically changes to the margin type that you have selected.
Click Page Layout > Margins > Custom Margins. In the Page Setup Window, change the top margin to 1 inch. Select "This point forward" from the Apply to selection box. Click Ok.
In the Borders and Shading box, design your border:
- Under Setting on the left, choose the border style you want. If you want to remove a border, select None.
- Under Style, select the line style you want.
- Select the arrow under Color and choose a border color.
- Select the arrow under Width and choose the width you want.
Add a custom border
- Right-click the text box, AutoShape, picture, or object that you want to add the border to.
- Select the appropriate Format <object> menu item and click the Colors and Lines tab.
- Click BorderArt.
- In the BorderArt dialog box, click Create Custom.
- Click Select Picture.
Go to Design > Page Borders. If the borders are still not showing when you print, adjust the margins to give more space between the borders and the edge of the page on the document. Go to Layout > Margins, and select Custom Margins. Increase the border that corresponds with the one that's missing when you print.
How to Adjust the Margin of a Border
- Open a new Microsoft Word document.
- Click "Page Layout" on your toolbar.
- Click the "Page Borders" button. A menu of different border styles will pop up on your screen.
- Click the "Custom" box. Then click the "Options" button. A new menu will pop up with boxes and measurements for the margins.
Setting the Distance between Text and Borders
- Select the paragraphs you want to affect.
- Display the Home tab of the ribbon.
- In the Paragraph group, click the down-arrow to the right of the Borders tool.
- Select Borders and Shading.
- If you had not previously done so, make sure you select the borders you want to appear around the paragraph.
Here's how:
- Open a new Word document.
- Go to page setup:
- Set all margins to 0.
- Click OK.
- You'll get a message saying the margins are outside the printable area (the message may vary slightly depending on which version of Word you're using).
- Your printer's margins will now populate the margin fields.
Hover the mouse over the top or bottom edge of any page until Word displays the white space arrows. Then, double-click the edge and Word will hide the header (and footer) and the white space. Uncheck the Show White Space Between Pages in Page Layout View option.
Choose File then go to "Page setup..". then click on the tab called "Margins & Header / Footer". From there adjust the margin numbers to a smaller setting (zero works). Now you should be able to print larger images without getting the edges cut off.
From the Microsoft Word Document:
- Select the Layout Tab.
- Select the Small Arrow at the bottom right corner of the Page Setup Section. The Page Setup screen will open.
- Select the Margins Tab.
- Make Sure the Top, Bottom, Left and Right page margins are configured to at least 0.16" or higher.
- Select OK to save changes.
What to do when you get margin placement errors in Word
- Press [Ctrl][G].
- In the Go To What box, scroll to and select Section.
- In the Enter Section Number box, enter the section number given in the error message, press [Enter], and click Close.
- Go to File | Page Setup.
- On the Margins tab, click OK.
- Click Fix.
- Click OK.

Add or change the background color
- Go to Design > Page Color.
- Choose the color you want under Theme Colors or Standard Colors. If you don't see the color you want, select More Colors, and then choose a color from the Colors box.
Click the border to bring up the Text Box Tools tab again, and then change the formatting using the Shape Outline menu to apply a different border.
Open one word document, in the group of the "Menus" tab at the far left of the Ribbon of word 2007/2010/2013, you can view the "Format" menu and execute many commands from the drop-down menu of Format.
Add a border to a pictureOn the Picture Format tab, in the Pictures Styles gallery, choose a style. Choose the image that you want to add a customized border to. Go to Picture Format > Picture Border. Choose a color.
Themes add a professional look to your document.
- Select Design > Themes.
- Point to a theme to preview how it will look.
- Select the theme you want.
In the “Paragraph” section of the “Home” tab, click the down arrow on the right side of the “Borders” button and select “No Border” from the drop-down menu. This removes the line from below the paragraph in which you placed the cursor.
Remove a cell borderOn a worksheet, select the cell or range of cells that you want to remove a border from. To cancel a selection of cells, click any cell on the worksheet. Click Home > the Borders arrow > Erase Border, and then select the cells with the border you want to erase.
Delete lines or connectorsTip: If you want to delete multiple lines or connectors, select the first line, press and hold Ctrl while you select the other lines, and then press Delete. If you can't select a line to delete, it might actually be a horizontal line, which is a type of border.
You have turned on Track Changes. Activate the Review tab of the ribbon. Click to unhighlight the Track Changes button. Click the lower half of the Accept button and select Accept All Changes In Document.
Remove double line spacing
- Select the paragraph you want to change, or press Ctrl+A to select all text.
- Go to Home > Line and Paragraph Spacing.
- Select the line spacing you want.
- For more exact spacing, select Line Spacing Options, and make changes under Spacing.
If you can't automatically add lines on your system, follow these steps:
- Choose AutoCorrect (or AutoCorrect Options) from the Tools menu. Word displays the AutoCorrect Options dialog box.
- Make sure the AutoFormat As You Type tab is selected.
- Make sure the Border Lines (or Borders) check box is checked.
- Click on OK.
To remove the border from a text box, follow these steps:
- Either click on the border of the text box or position the insertion point within the text box.
- Select the Text Box option from the Format menu.
- Click on the Colors and Lines tab, if necessary.
- In the Color drop-down list, select No Line.
- Click on OK.
