DuetDisplay allows you to connect Android or iOS tablets to Mac or Windows devices. This is a more robust option to go with if you tend to mix your platforms. Believe it or not, there are monitors available that are designed specifically to be secondary laptop displays.
Getting Started
- Turn on the system and select the appropriate button for laptop.
- Connect the VGA or HDMI cable to your laptop's VGA or HDMI port. If you are using a HDMI or VGA adapter, plug the adapter into your laptop and connect the provided cable to the other end of the adapter.
- Turn on your laptop.

Laptops are designed to be portable and used when away from a desktop. However, when you only own a desktop, you're unable to take your work with you to more easily collaborate with others. Docking stations for laptops are meant to bridge the gap between portability and having a stationary place to work and play.
If you want two external monitors, you will need to use a dock, like a universal USB port replicator.
2 Answers. It is very likely that your laptop can activate both external monitors, but one of them will have to mirror the on-board LCD panel. Connect them both with the appropriate cables and visit Control Panel > Display > Adjust Resolution to set them up.
And while docking stations are great for keeping every USB device on your desk connected, it's a bonus to have it charging your laptop at the same time. It can be used to connect AND charge a USB Type-C laptop or PC and is backwards compatible with USB Type-A.
These days, you can find universal docking stations that will work with any laptop that has a USB 3.0 port. Some laptops have their own docking stations, taking away the need for a universal one. For instance, when I bought my main PC—a Lenovo X220—I paid extra to get a docking station specific to that model.
Expensive hubs can handle more and handle it much faster.The most advanced USB-C docking stations have newer ports with technologies, like Thunderbolt 3, that support faster charging and faster data transfer. The more expensive the laptop accessory, the more likely it is to support a high-resolution monitor, too.
Some laptops will support two external monitors if you can find a way of plugging them in. For example, you could plug one into an HDMI port and the second into a VGA port. This is not quite as good as using two HDMI ports because HDMI and VGA are different video standards.
Go to the Control Panel and run the applet called Power Options. Click the Advanced tab on the properties sheet, and look for the section that says: "When I close the lid of my portable computer". Click the down arrow for the list of options, and select "Do nothing".

Set up dual monitors on Windows 10
- Select Start > Settings > System > Display. Your PC should automatically detect your monitors and show your desktop.
- In the Multiple displays section, select an option from the list to determine how your desktop will display across your screens.
- Once you've selected what you see on your displays, select Keep changes.
Confirm the monitor is correctly connected to a power source, and it's turned on. Restart the computer to re-establish the connection. Use the built-in controls on the monitor and make sure the correct input is selected. Check the signal cable connection between the monitor and device's graphics card.
For Laptops. Laptops are the easiest to start a multiple monitor setup. The dual monitor setup is the most common with the display on the laptop being one of them. Simply connect a second display to the available video output port be it VGA, HDMI, Display Port, Thunderbolt 3 or Miracast over WiFi and off you go.
Sharing Internet on Windows. Connect your desktop to a laptop with an Ethernet cable. Plug the Ethernet cable into your desktop's square Ethernet port (usually found on the back of the desktop), then plug the other end into the laptop's Ethernet port.
USB video adapters are devices that take one USB port and go to one or many video connections, such as VGA, DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort. Ensure that the USB video adapter is compatible with your operating system. USB video adapters require your video card to be able to handle an additional display.
