Customize the Dock
- On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Dock. Open Dock preferences for me.

Open the app and tap the screen. Choose the app, shortcut or bookmark whose icon you wish to change. Tap Change to assign a different icon—either an existing icon or an image—and tap OK to finish. You can change the app's name as well if you want.
The steps are pretty simple:
- Select the folder whose icon you want to change and press Cmd+i to open that folders Info panel.
- Open the image you want to use for the folder's icon in Preview.
- Back in the info panel, click on the icon in the top left corner and press Cmd+v to paste your customized icon image.
Changing folder background colours
You can change the folder background colour on your Mac. Select a folder by double clicking on it or press ' Tab ' to highlight it and press ' Apple ' + ' O ' to open it. To choose another colour click again on the box next to ' Color ' to bring up the colour circle.Your Pictures folder should be in Finder/Home/Pictures. You can drag it to your Sidebar if you want to create an alias there. Choose Home from the Finder's Go menu, or click on any of the bottom three items in Favorites and press the Command and Up Arrow keys. Usual location is in your user folder.
File Types Manager
Right-Click the file type you'd like to change, and then Select Edit Selected File Type. In the Edit window that appears, Click the … button next to Default Icon. Browse for the icon that you would like to use, and then Click OK from both open windows to apply changes.To find system icons open Finder, select Go from the menu bar, and open Go To Folder. Enter the following address, copy and paste it into the box. When you hit enter a folder will appear with every icon you want. To save out the icon you want, double click it to open it within Finder.
In Windows 8 and 10, it's Control Panel > Personalize > Change Desktop Icons. Use the checkboxes in the “Desktop icons” section to select which icons you want on your desktop. To change an icon, select the icon you want to change and then click the “Change Icon” button.
Steps
- Click any folder of your choice.
- Bring up the info page. You can press "Cmd + I" on the keyboard, or press down the option key while you click the folder and then select "Get Info."
- Open any the image you want to use as an icon. Do this using Preview.
- Select the image and copy it.
- Replace the folder icon.
Changing a Mac's Icon With an ICNS Icon
- Right-click or Control-click the folder with the icon you want to change and select Get Info from the pop-up menu.
- In the downloads folder, select an icon you want to use.

- Do a Google Image search for the emoji you want (i.e., "heart emoji" or "star emoji").
- Drag the image you want to your desktop.

How to Make Desktop Shortcuts in macOS
- Click on the Finder icon at the bottom left of the screen (the leftmost icon in the Dock).
- Right-click on the Folder, File, or Application you'd like to create a shortcut for on the left side of the window.
- Select Make Alias.
- Click enter and drag the alias to your desktop.
Here is how you can do this.
- Step 1: Choose a folder. Provided FolderIco is already installed, right-click any folder you want to assign a PNG picture to and choose "More Icon" submenu.
- Step 2: Choose an icon.
- Step 3: or open a custom PNG image.
Choose Edit -> Copy in Preview's menu bar, or use the keyboard shortcut Command-C. Next, right-click (or Ctrl-click) the file or folder whose icon you want to change and select Get Info from the contextual menu. Click the icon in the top left of the Info panel to select it.
Click “View” in the menu bar and select “Show View Options.” Drag the “Icon Size” slider to the left to make icons smaller or drag it to the right to make them larger. Drag the “Grid Spacing” slider to the left to arrange your icons in a tight grid or drag it to the right to make a larger grid.
