What is DSN? The Defense Switched Network is the principle long haul voice communications command network with the Defense Communicating System, providing nonsecure direct-distance dialing service worldwide through a system of government-owned and-leased automatic switching facilities.

DSN is the Defense Switched Network, which is, among other things, the DOD worldwide telephone system. DSN telephone numbers can only be dialed from one DSN telephone number to another telephone on the Defense Switched Network. Civilian phone systems can not send or receive calls to or from a DSN phone.

Telephone numbers preceded by a C- are commercial telephone numbers. The commercial phone number listings on this website contain detailed telephone numbers and prefixes for dialing from a civilian telephone to a military telephone (where this capability exists).
Class "A" Restricted (Official): Telephones authorized for the transaction of official government business. This class of service provides connectivity to the commercial telephone system and allows local area and 800 dialing only. Acceptance of collect calls is not authorized.
DSN users dial “7” followed by the 9-digit DVN number. DSN users in Hawaii must first dial a “5” (57 and then the 9-digit DVN number).
Dialing certain on-base DSNs from an off-base Japanese cell phone requires you to first call the on-base operator, then enter the 7-digit DSN number upon hearing the dial tone. The DSNs which require the operator connection include 637, 636, 625 and 643.
The DSN Telephone number is 315-263-4128. If you want to dial from a Japanese cell phone 046-407-4128. If you are calling from outside Japan using a regular phone/cell dial 011-81-467-407-4128. As a general rule any DSN Number from a Japanese phone: 046-407-XXXX (last 4 numbers of the DSN line).
As long as the number is a local number for the base, the operator should be able to connect the phone call. -- 809-4-OFF-DSN: Individuals needing to call a toll free number from DSN phones are able to dial 809-463-3376. After dialing, wait for a dial tone then dial the toll free number.
How to Call Japan from the U.S.

With few exceptions, 911 calls cannot be transferred to other towns, cities or states. The best option to obtain emergency assistance in a different state, county or city is to dial the 10-digit phone number for law enforcement in the community where assistance is needed.
How can I call a toll free number? Just be sure to dial “1” followed by the correct toll free prefix (800, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877, or 888). Toll free prefixes are not interchangeable. In other words, dialing 1 (800) 123-4567 would not route your call to the same place as 1 (800) 123-4567.
