According to two passages in the Bible, Daniel fasted twice. During the first fast, he ate only vegetables and water to set himself apart for God. For a second fast mentioned in a later chapter, Daniel stopped eating meat, wine and other rich foods.
There are seven types of Christian fasting: Partial Fasting, The Daniel Fast, Complete Fasting, Absolute Fasting, Sexual Fasting, Corporate Fasting, and a Soul Fast. Each one of these fasts should be done with an attitude of humility and a hunger for God.

What You Can't Eat on The Daniel Fast. Meat & Eggs: Animal protein of any kind is not allowed during the three-week fasting plan, and meat is specifically avoided in the Book of Daniel. Instead, participants are encouraged to obtain protein from legumes, whole grains, nuts, and seeds.
In the King James Version of the Bible the text reads: That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto. thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father,which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
The passage in Chapter 1 refers to a 10-day test wherein Daniel and others with him were permitted to eat vegetables and water to avoid the Babylonian king's food and wine. After remaining healthy at the end of the 10-day period, they continued the vegetable diet for the three years of their education.

You may not be able to fast for 21 days. Choose a 3-day or 7-day fast. This can be a Partial Fast, Full Fast, or Daniel Fast. Fasting from food isn't the only option when it comes to fasting, especially for those with specific health conditions.
Mentioned in the Bible more than 70 times, the first example of fasting in Scripture is in Exodus 34 – “Moses was on Mount Sinai with the Lord for 40 days and 40 nights. He didn't eat any food or drink any water.
The first was Moses when he went up to receive the Ten Commandments from the Lord on Mount Sinai: "And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. Moses was obviously sustained by the miraculous power of God since this fast eliminated both food and water.
Today, Lent is connected with the 40-day fast that Jesus undergoes (Mark 1:13; Matthew 4:1–11; Luke 4:1–13). Mark tells us that Jesus was tempted by Satan, but it is in Matthew and Luke that the details of the temptation are fleshed out. All three accounts say that Jesus went without food for the 40 days.
