Secure Email Means Encryption
Simply put, encryption creates secure email by scrambling the data so only someone with the right password or other authentication can decrypt the message. In many cases, this process of encryption and decryption takes place without users ever knowing.Email was not designed with any privacy or security in mind. Most email services store your messages as plain text. So, any attacker who can access those servers (say, via a security flaw or by stealing an admin password) can easily access all the stored email and attachments.
Gmail is still not truly end-to-end encrypted, where only the communicators can read the contents of the email. It only works when the encrypted email is sent to a Gmail address. It's been three years and Google still has no updates for its end-to-end encryption tool.
While you cannot insure that no one can intercept your emails, you CAN make it so that anyone who does intercept them cannot read them. Again, this works exactly like traditional snail-mail: the message can be encrypted so that only the intended recipient can read it.
