Things can get downright deadly when male kangaroos fight over mating rights. With their gigantic feet, these "boomers" deliver kicks that can crush bone and even kill their opponents.
Dogs will chase kangaroos that they see in the countryside. Big reds are the largest kangaroos and they can kill a dog if they get into a fight. Kangaroos are also very clever. If they are being chased by a dog, they will lead it into a dam, often resulting in the dog drowning.
Kangaroos are famous for their forward-opening pouch, where the joey (baby kangaroo) develops and suckles. A female kangaroo is known as a 'flyer' or a 'doe' and a male kangaroo a 'buck' or a 'boomer' (hence the nickname of the Australian men's basketball team, the Boomers). They live in social groups called mobs.
The kangaroo is an Australian icon. But many people see large male kangaroos as placid grazing animals. The reality is that they can be aggressive towards people. Although the risk of this happening is very small, we still need to be wary around them.
Joeys poop and pee into the pouch and that means mother kangaroo has to clean the pouch regularly. The mother also cleans the pouch the day the new joey is born. Joeys not only poop and pee into the pouch but when they get older they bring in the dirt when they move in and out of the pouch.
The male kangaroos fight other males for mating rights. So over time, strong muscular males are selected for. The females do not fight for mating rights so they do not have a need for strength equivalent to that of the males.
A Male Red Kangaroo can weigh close to 90 Kg (200 pounds) it can jump close to 9 metres (30 feet) this should provide some idea of how strong that kick is. If a 'Roo wants to fight you, it will grab hold of you with it's fore paws, and make a raking kick down your stomach with the full strength of that kick.

Kangaroos only feel completely comfortable near humans if they are hand raised by them. Kangaroos are VERY PLACID animals, but like ALL wild animals they will become aggressive when provoked or when their life is threatened. As with ALL WILD animals (unless they are RABID) they are never friendly.
Kangaroo Protection Coalition Says …Wallabies and kangaroos cannot be housetrained, nor should they mix with domestic animals; they can catch diseases off them. Wallabies and kangaroos need a very big grassed area to live in, and company of their own kind.”
They're herbivores, meaning they only eat vegetation, so even if they kill a person, they don't eat it. They have very little incentive to start a fight with a human, and are most aggressive under two conditions: Kangaroos live in large family groups called mobs.
While kangaroos are not an endangered species, they do still face many threats that make them vulnerable. The most common threats to Kangaroos are due to human activities, including hunting, and conflict with vehicles.
Like many species, male kangaroos sometimes fight over potential mates. They often lean back on their sturdy tail and “box” each other with their strong hind legs. Kangaroos can also bite and wield sharp claws, which they may do in battle with an enemy like a dingo.
A Red Kangaroo can comfortably hop at about 15 miles per hour, but it has been clocked going up to 44 miles per hour. It can also sustain a speed of 25 miles per hour for a mile. Kangaroos can hop further than any other animal on earth, leaping up to 25 feet in a single hop.
If an Eastern Grey Kangaroo doe only raises its first joey to the pouch-emergent stage by 3.5 years of age, and finishes breeding at around 12 years of age, she is only likely to produce 8 young in her lifetime. If 75% of joeys are likely to die, this leaves only 2 young to survive to adulthood.
Red kangaroos regularly leap 5ft (1.5m), and their highest jumps are said to be around 10ft (3m). That is about on a par with impalas, but not as high as the bounciest hares and jackrabbits.
Kangaroos are pretty strong. They fight each other with strong kicks with their legs. They have a more padded belly so they are not as affected by strong kicks from others. Kangaroos can cause serious injury to humans.
It's Natural! The odor on your pet's paws is typically nothing to worry about. Bacteria and fungi live on the skin and, when in balance, is healthy and normal. The “Fritos feet” phenomenon is from a bacteria called Pseudomonas and Proteus, which give off a yeasty odor that can smell like corn chips.
Naturally, the Red Kangaroo has few predators. The most common is the Dingo, a dog-like animal that has rusty-orange fur. Joeys may fall prey to eagles and foxes, but the only other predator to adult Red Kangaroos are humans.
Kangaroos and cats, like many mammals, will lick their fur to groom themselves. But they lick themselves much more in hot weather, focusing on the forelegs. As the saliva evaporates, it cools the body just as sweat does.
Red kangaroos, though sometimes grey-blue in colour, have a totally different face than eastern grey kangaroos. Red kangaroos have distinctive markings in black and white beside their muzzles and along the sides of their face. Eastern grey kangaroos do not have these markings, and their eyes seem large and wide open.
Kangaroo handsThe paws on a kangaroo's front legs are very different to those on the back. Kangaroo forepaws are much smaller than their hindpaws, have five fingers and aren't too dissimilar from human hands, although they don't have a thumb.

Kangaroos sometimes eat meatThey [generally] lack the equipment to capture and kill other animals, or the digestive system to handle a meaty diet.” Tree kangaroos will eat birds and even cows will chew on a bone.” Graeme also recognizes that known herbivores are not all strict vegetarians.
Kangaroos require a class three permit. But the more dangerous ones, like big cats and crocodiles, require class one permits. "You go east of 95, it's beach life. Both Mark and Kyle have class one permit state-the strictest rules for the most dangerous animals.
Kangaroos possess powerful hind legs, a long, strong tail, and small front legs. Kangaroos belong to the animal family Macropus, literally "big foot." Thanks to their large feet, kangaroos can leap some 30 feet (9 meters) in a single bound, and travel more than 30 ?miles (48 ?kilometers)? per hour?.
Wallabies are legal to own in Tennessee according to the state laws, but caring for an exotic pet can be more demanding than a cat or dog. "It's not like having a cat or dog. It's really difficult to house train them. That's the biggest hurdle you have to get over."
In Wisconsin, West Virginia and South Carolina, it's legal to own a kangaroo without a permit. It's more common to need a permit, like in Washington and Texas. But, in news that will come as no surprise to anyone, it's illegal to own a kangaroo as a pet in the majority of the United States of America.
It's a general fact that kangaroos don't have twin joeys. But they do have joeys 9-12 months apart*. Big sister joey @1 year old will leave the pouch just before her little sister is born.
Australia has very different species to other continents because it became isolated from all the other continents 99 million years ago. Eventually the Kangaroos evolved, unable to leave the continent. So this is why kangaroos only live (in the wild) in Australia.
The only state you can legally own a kangaroo is Victoria, and even then, it can't be wild and you need a licence. In NSW, the only native mammals you can keep are the plains rat and spinifex hopping-mouse. Kangaroos and wallabies do not make good pets and you should never keep one.
