Tuition Assistance: Receive up to $20,000 in tuition assistance ($2,500 to $5,000 per semester, up to 4 semesters). Cadets who take advantage of this program will not have to re-pay the amount after completing 2 years of service as a New York City Police Officer.The
orientation class will start promptly.
You must bring the following items:
- Picture identification.
- Student copy of your last transcript.
- Bursar's receipt for your current schedule of classes.
- Two black pens.
- Permanent resident card (if you are not a citizen)
What do police cadets do? Police cadets, help and assist in the community by getting involved in stewarding in local events such as fairs, town shows, carnivals and other local events. We also assist in high profile events in your areas.
You need to be at least aged 12 and in year 8 at school to join the cadets. So, if you are aged 12 by 1 September at the start of year 8 at school you can apply to join the cadets. If you are aged 18 or above, you can join as an adult volunteer. What does it cost to be a cadet?
In the United States, cadet refers to a full-time college student who is concurrently in training to become a commissioned officer of the armed forces.
Steps to Becoming a Police Officer

Drug detection times
Amphetamines: 1-3 days in urine and around 12 hours in blood. Barbiturates: 2-4 days in urine and 1-2 days in blood. Benzodiazepines: 3-6 weeks in urine and 2-3 days in blood. Cannabis: 7-30 days in urine and up to 2 weeks in blood.Random roadside drug testing uses saliva samples to detect illicit drugs. Specially-trained police officers take a sample of your saliva, using an absorbent collector placed in the mouth or on the tongue. This test takes around 3 minutes. Drug-testing includes taking urine samples which are sent to federally certified testing laboratories to test for the presence of amphetamines, cannabinoids, cocaine, PCP, opiates, methaqualone, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, methadone and propoxyphene.
Prescription medications and certain foods, such as poppy seeds, may contain compounds that might lead to false positive results. Hair samples undergo a two-step process to ensure accurate test results.
Understanding your results
This test determines if the hair sample is negative for drug use. A negative result indicates that you haven't engaged in illicit drug use over the past 90 days. Additional testing is required to confirm a positive result. A positive drug test is confirmed after 72 hours.Drug Testing

Under the new policy, reported on Wednesday in The New York Post, officers would be tested on entering the Police Academy and again when their probationary period ended after two years. Steroids would be added to the list of substances for which officers can be randomly tested.
Although there is no routine testing for steroid use, police officials say that any officer who is suspected of being on any drug can still be ordered to take a narcotics test. If an officer is found to be using steroids without a prescription, he can be subject to discipline, including firing.
Under officer is an appointment held by the most senior cadets at some Commonwealth officer training establishments and in University Officers' Training Corps in the United Kingdom, and also a rank used in some Commonwealth cadet forces.
How long is the police academy? The Academy is 18 weeks long (728 hours of instruction).

Colorado POST-Approved Basic Academies. In order to become POST-certified as a peace officer, you must first attend a POST-approved Basic academy. All Basic academies must meet or exceed POST requirements. The minimum required Basic curriculum is 556 hours, though all academies exceed this requirement.
