The MySSA project will provide a single point of access to users of our electronic services. Users will sign on to MySSA via the Internet and may choose to access one or more of our available electronic services.
If you get such a call, the FTC suggests that you hang up and call SSA directly. Dial 800-772-1213—yes, that really is the phone number for the Social Security Administration, but if you dial it yourself, you'll know who you're getting.
Individuals may report suspicious activity involving Social Security programs and operations to the Social Security Fraud Hotline at ssa.gov/report, or by phone at 1-800-269-0271, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Eastern Time, Monday through Friday.
Don't call a phone number left on your voice mail by a robocaller. If you want to contact SSA, call the customer-service line at 800-772-1213. Don't assume a call is legitimate because it appears to come from 800-772-1213.
Change of Address
- Log in to my Social Security.
- Select the My Profile link on the right side of the screen.
- Select the Update Contact Information button and enter your address information.
- Select when would you like to schedule the update, then select Next.
- Review and verify your information, select Submit .
We currently mail Social Security Statements (Statements) to workers age 60 and over who aren't receiving Social Security benefits and do not yet have a my Social Security account. We mail the Statements three months prior to your birthday.
The activation code is an alphanumeric code sent by SSA to the employer or registered User Identification Number (User ID) holder when access to certain services are requested. This code must be entered on the Activate Access to BSO Services web page in order to grant the user access to the requested service.
The real SSA will never call to threaten your benefits or tell you to wire money, send cash, or put money on gift cards. You can't believe the numbers on your caller ID. Scammers can easily fake those. But if you're worried, call the real SSA at 1-800-772-1213.
The last four digits of your Social Security number are especially important. Be sure to protect them well. By obtaining your Social Security number, identity thieves have the easiest path to the greatest damage: stealing your money and government benefits. Getting medical care and other services in your name.
If you believe someone is using your Social Security number to work, get your tax refund, or other abuses involving taxes, contact the IRS online or call 1-800-908-4490. You can order free credit reports annually from the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion).
Your Social Security number is the most important piece of personal information a bank needs when extending you credit or opening an account. With that number, a thief can get credit cards or loans, and when it comes time to repay them, they won't, damaging your credit in the process.

- Do hang up on illegal robocalls.
- Do add all your numbers to the National Do Not Call Registry operated by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
- Do explore free and low-cost call-blocking options, such as apps and services that screen calls and weed out spam and scams.
- Do verify the caller.
If you provided a scammer with your Social Security Number directly, or you already think your number was used fraudulently, you will need to act more urgently. The credit agencies will provide you with a PIN number which you must keep on hand to unfreeze it. Fraud alert.

New Online SecurityWe've added an extra layer of security for our customers when they interact with us online. Now, my Social Security account holders are required to use their cell phone — in addition to their username and password — as another authentication factor during online registration and every sign in.
When Social Security Dependents Benefits May StopIf you are receiving dependents benefits based on someone else's earnings record, there are additional changes that can cause your benefits to stop, such as getting married (under certain circumstances), turning a certain age, or a change in living arrangements.
Some smartphones running Google's Android operating system can report spam calls from within the Phone app, though this varies from device to device. On a phone with “vanilla” Android (like Google's Pixel line), open your recent calls list, tap on the number in question, and choose Block/Report Spam.
Report Most Common ScamsThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is the main agency that collects scam reports. Report your scam online with the FTC complaint assistant, or by phone at 1-877-382-4357 (9:00 AM - 8:00 PM, ET).
The CAFC is noting an increase in telephone calls where fraudsters claim that your Social Insurance Number (SIN) has been blocked, compromised or suspended. Canadians who receive these calls are asked to provide their SIN and other personal & financial information (DOB, name, address, account balances, etc).
If you know your Social Security number has been stolen, here are some additional steps to take:
- File a police report or a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Identity Theft Report.
- If you believe your identity has already been used, you can also contact the Social Security Fraud Hotline at (800) 269-0271.
The recording indicates that there has been suspicious activity on your cloud account and requests that you call back immediately using the phone number provided: 1-888-320-6849. If you receive a similar call, ignore it. Apple won't call you to tell you about problems with your account.
