You should be able to turn off the Snap to Grid feature this way:
- Click the Draw tab.
- Click the down arrow in the Shapes section.
To remove space from between notes, click the “Insert” tab and click the “Insert Space” button again. Place your mouse pointer above the lower of the two notes where you want to reduce the space. Click and drag upwards to remove the extra space between notes.
