I love MonzoI use it for a personal account and a business account. Both work amazingly well for my needs, especially the ease of transfers between accounts and the spending budgets facilities.
You can also ask for a copy of your full payment transaction history with Monzo, which we'll give you in the form of bank statements. If you've moved house, we can send your statements via email instead.

Most UK banks accept these documents as proof of address:Valid UK driving license. Recent utility bill (gas, electricity, water, or landline phone) Council tax bill. Recent credit card or bank statement.
Proof of Address
- Valid Driver's License.
- Property Tax Receipt.
- Posted Mail with name of applicant.
- Utility Bill.
- Lease Agreement.
- Insurance Card.
- Voter Registration Card.
- College Enrollment Papers.
Here's one option. Your bank might not send you paper statements each month, but the chances are good that you can now get a PDF statement through online banking. Do that, print it off, and hey presto – you've got your proof of address. Before doing this, however, it's worth checking that a printout will be accepted.
NatWest not accepting Monzo as proof of address.
What do you need to open a bank account?
- Passport – a full and valid UK or foreign passport with a machine readable zone – made up of two rows of letters, numbers and chevron '<' characters, and is on most passports.
- Driving licence – the following licence types are fine.
Is TV licence a utility bill? A TV License is not a utility bill, although you do have to pay it annually.
We'll ask you to give us access to your geolocation while you're using the Monese app. Once you allow this, we can use it to verify your address. If you order a physical debit card from us, we can verify your address once you activate it.
You don't need anything else. If you get an online printed statement, or what you normally get from printing the statement instore (which basically doesn't look like a normal statement), then you need it stamped/signed by the bank.
This is usually a driving licence, passport or other government issued photo ID. Finally, many banks ask for proof of your address.
You can deposit between £5-300 in one go, and up to £1,000 in total every six months. If you're 16-17 years old, that limit's lower, so you can only deposit a maximum of £500 every six months.
You'll soon be able to check your credit score using MonzoWe report information about current accounts and loans to TransUnion and Experian. We also use data from TransUnion and Experian to help us make decisions about who we can responsibly lend money to (for our overdrafts and loans).
When you sign up through the Monzo app, we'll ask you to take a picture of that ID and a short video of yourself. That's it! You'll need a UK address where we can send your debit card, and then you're good to go. Even as a recent immigrant, signing up for Monzo takes less than 10 minutes, all through your smartphone.
You don't have to worry about accidentally bypassing local laws or regulations, while you open a UK bank account without proof of address. Most banks will require a copy of a house rental contract. But this is not always the case!
There's not much to write here as both banks are excellent in this regard. The only fee that Monzo will charge you is if you withdraw more than £200 per month while abroad. For international transfers with Starling, you'll have to pay a 0.4% transfer fee and a £5.50 delivery fee for more reliable SWIFT payments.
You told us you'd find it useful to access Monzo online, so we've built a basic web interface that everyone can use when they need to. If you're stuck without your phone and Monzo card, Monzo Web lets you freeze your card and see your latest transactions, so you can get back to normal faster.
So you can open a Monzo account alongside any other accounts you already have! Having more than one bank account shouldn't affect your credit score, unless you try to open loads of new ones in a very short space of time.
The major advantage for this approach is that you can open an account wherever you are and receive money into a local bank account, for example the UK, even if you are not resident in that country.
