The Google Nest Hub Max is pretty much a larger, more expensive version of the 7-inch Home Hub, but it adds plenty of extra, useful features for the increase in price. For the bedroom, the smaller Nest Hub is perfect for a bedside table, whereas the Nest Hub Max is an excellent addition to a kitchen or living room.
However, the Nest Hub and Hub Max aren't mobile devices nor quite as full-featured as tablets, and there's no app store like Google Play -- but they generally don't cost as much as tablets, either.
There is no monthly fee that is charged when you use Google Home. All you need to have is a free Google account, and you start using Google Home on your smartphone to set up Google Home. You can also use the free version of Spotify, TuneIn, etc.
The design may encourage you to think of the Nest Hub Max as a Google tablet with a speaker attached, but it's really nothing of the sort. There's a touchscreen and you can partially control the unit with it, but to remotely unlock its potential you'll need to talk to it, or at least “cast” content from your phone.
Your Google Nest Hub Max comes with a built-in Nest Cam. You can use the Nest Cam to check in on your home when you're away with the live view functionality and alerts when activity is detected.
The Google Home Hub is arguably the best smart display on the market. It's much smaller than you might expect, with a really good-looking 7in screen that appears to be mounted into a small fabric cushion that's only visible at the bottom.
The Google Home Hub is a visual, touchscreen-based interface that's designed to help you navigate daily life. The device can do things like guide you through a morning or evening routine, watch the news, follow recipes, and even make calls.
Since the two devices are close on most fronts, you should go with the Amazon Echo Show if you prefer Alexa. You should also go with the Echo Show if you want a smart display that sounds good when playing music. However, if you're a Google fan or if you're on the fence, the Google Nest Hub is the better choice.
Google Home Hub does not work with Facetime. Google has its own video calling program called Google Duo which is supported on Google Home devices for voice calls and video calls if the device has a built-in camera. Facetime only works on Apple products such as iPhones and Macbooks.
To set up your devices, you'll need to take the following steps.
- Launch the Google Home app.
- Select the Menu icon .
- Under Google Assistant, select More settings.
- Select the Services tab.
- Select Videos and Photos.
- Locate Netflix and tap the Link icon to link your Google account to your Netflix app.
Yes you can watch Netflix on your phone without app installed. App is not necessary to view content but if you download Netflix app , You can save your favourite shows and movies offline to view anytime you want !!
You don't need a subscription to watch ordinary YouTube videos on the Nest Hub. You can search for them by voice and scroll through the options with your voice or with touch. You can watch YouTube on the Echo Show, but only via a browser, which doesn't respond to voice commands.
To set it up, find your device in the Google Home app, tap Settings > Display Settings. From there, you can choose when you'd like your display to dim. You can also choose if the display goes off or shows the clock during low-light situations.
Link a TV or Chromecast that's already set up and connected to your network
- Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same account as your Chromecast, or speaker or display.
- Open the Google Home app .
- Scroll down to "Local devices", tap Add to a room Choose your room Next.
The addition of Netflix support is a major step in the right direction. Google's voice-activated speaker now recognises when you ask it to play Netflix shows. With your voice, you can ask its assistant to skip episodes, pause and resume playback, switch on captions, and even rewind what you're watching.

Start a call
- Google Nest Hub Max, Google Nest Hub: Say "Video call [contact]" or "Call [contact] on Duo.”
- On the “Household contacts” card, tap Video call .
- Google Home, Google Nest Mini (2nd gen), Google Home Mini (1st gen), Google Home Max, Google Nest Audio, Google Nest Wifi point: Say "Call [contact] on Duo.”
They aren't portable like tablets or phones, but do many of the same things and yet tend to have much more limited functionality. There are no apps and (aside from the Show) there's no web browser. Maybe that's the whole point: smart displays aren't meant to be much more than a smart speaker with some extras.
