A Chromecast by itself can power on your TV through a feature called CEC or Consumer Electronics Control. In short, if you enable this feature on your TV, it allows you to control the television through various HDMI devices.
Here's the easiest way to stop Chromecast notifications on your device.
- Open the Settings app.
- Under the “Personal” section, tap Google, then hit the Cast media controls option.
- Turn the slider to the “off” position.
Even if you're hell bent on only powering your Chromecast or other streaming stick when you're using it, we'd strongly encourage you to unplug the device from the power socket instead of from the HDMI socket. It won't consume any power just sitting there and you won't unnecessarily stress the connection.
Whenever you turn off your television, Chromecast will go into standby mode (which means Chromecast is still is still receiving power but not running) Similarly, any time you change your input to your TV, Chromecast will remain in standby mode.
Google's Chromecast is an excellent little streaming device that offers an easy and affordable way to get content from the little screen to the big one. The thing is, when you're not using it, it can use over 15GB of data every month just idling. That's a pretty significant amount for anyone on a metered connection.
Can I move Chromecast to another TV? Yes, Chromecast is built with portability in mind. You can move it from room to room for use with other HDMI-enabled display devices. You won't need to set up your device again, as long as your Chromecast is connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Some TV models keep the USB power on when on standby/off, meaning your Chromecast if connected to your TV via USB may stay on as it can draw power form the USB slot and if this is the case it will still use data. If it does not show up when your TV is off then it is off and all should be okay.

And forget about turning the TV off, that just didn't work. Until yesterday that is. Google published a new support document that explains that you can now turn on and off the TV with Google Home.And if your HDTV doesn't have a powered USB port, you might have to connect the Chromecast to its included power adapter, and then plug that into a free power outlet. However you get the Chromecast plugged in and powered, it should start flashing as it turns on.
By comparison, Chromecast merely sends a set of instructions to the television, which then starts streaming straight from the Internet, so you're free to use your phone or tablet however you want. Casting has virtually no impact on battery life either, since it's not responsible for beaming the actual content.
Chromecast may get hot to the touch; this is normal. Unplug Chromecast's power source and let it cool before removing it from your television. Use only the cables and plugs provided with your device to plug Chromecast into a power source. Using other cables or plugs may damage Chromecast and/or your television.
First try turning off your Chromecast by unplugging it, and while it's unplugged power off your mobile device and home router. Keep everything off for about 1 minute. Turn your router and/or cable modem back on, and wait for the connection to fully reestablish, about 2 minutes. Turn on your Chromecast.
Change the Wi-Fi network of Chromecast or Chromecast Audio
- Make sure your mobile phone or tablet is on the same Wi-Fi network as your device.
- Open the Google Home app .
- Tap your device.
- Scroll down to "General settings," then tap Wi-Fi.
- To change the Wi-Fi network, tap Forget This Network.

Cast video to your Android TV
- Connect your device to the same Wi-Fi network as your Android TV.
- Open the app that has the content you want to cast.
- In the app, find and select Cast .
- On your device, select the name of your TV .
- When Cast. changes color, you're successfully connected.
Disable Google Chromecast Notification
- Launch the Google Home application.
- Then tap the connected devices icon at the top right of the screen.
- Locate the device in question (in our case the Chromecast in the bedroom)
- And tap on the 3-dot menu icon at the top right of the feature image.

You can control Google's collection of crash reports and usage data through a device setting, which is enabled by default. For Chromecast and Chromecast Audio devices, you can manage this setting through the device settings menu of the Google Home app.Tap Settings. Tap Linked Accounts. Go to “Devices” in the top right corner. Look for your Chromecast, and tap the card menu in the top right corner. Go to “Guest Mode,” and turn it off.
Chromecast shows up as open wifi network. It broadcasts its own network so you can connect to it, just like when you first set it up. (Did you already forget this?) Once you give it the login credentials for your network (and your network is up) then it'll kill its SSID and connect to your wifi network.
The good news is your Chromecast hasn't actually been “hacked” - rather, someone was able to cast to your Chromecast due to an opening in your home network. To make your network more secure, you can disable UPnP to avoid any unwanted content being played on your devices.
Find the device you want to disable notifications on, then tap the three dots in the right corner of its card. Choose “Settings.” From here, look for the option that reads “Let others control your casted media” and disable it. The casting notification should no longer show up on any other devices on the network.
