Do you have to bring/wear water shoes ??Definitely! You're pretty much in your swimsuit /water shoes all day. The underground rivers have many rocks. I recommend water shoes to get around - even cheap flip flops .. you can strap them to your life vest as you goof around the park.

Tulum is a must visit. The access fee is $35-40 pesos (video cameras extra $30 pesos) and the visit timetable is 8 am to 5 pm, everyday. It is important to mention that it is necessary to park the your car at the shopping center's parking lot (an extra $30 pesos fee) when arriving through the main ruins entrance.

Firstly, the passage into Xel Ha is extremely shallow and rough. Secondly, there are not all that many fish in the lagoons at Xel Ha. Thirdly, bull sharks are not at all common in that part of the Caribbean. Fourthly, there have not been many shark attacks (if any) in that region for many years.
