A quick laboratory test for BV can be done in some clinics or doctors' offices - this test is called a "wet mount". Some of the vaginal discharge is placed on a glass slide with a drop of saline (a salt solution) and is looked at under a microscope for cells from the vagina covered with bacteria.

According to the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, the average value for urine pH is 6.0, but it can range from 4.5 to 8.0. Urine under 5.0 is acidic, and urine higher than 8.0 is alkaline, or basic. Different laboratories may have different ranges for "normal" pH levels.

Chlamydia infections do occasionally present with symptoms – like mucus- and pus-containing cervical discharges, which can come out as a vaginal discharge in some women. Women can also experience a strong odor with this discharge. A symptom that frequently co-occurs with this discharge is painful urination.

If a vaginal yeast infection is suspected, your health care provider will perform a pelvic exam and take a sample of the discharge from your vagina. If thrush is suspected, your health care provider will look at the infected area in the mouth and may also take a small scraping to examine under the microscope.
Several factors can cause a yeast infection, including:
- antibiotics, which decrease the amount of Lactobacillus (“good bacteria”) in the vagina.

- uncontrolled diabetes.

Symptoms of chlamydia can appear in both men and women, including:
- pain or burning while peeing.

Fact: Your body can't get rid of chlamydia on its own. This myth can be a dangerous one. It's very rare that your immune system will be able to tackle chlamydia on its own and cure you of it by itself. If it's detected early enough, chlamydia can be treated with antibiotics.
Most people who have chlamydia don't notice any symptoms.
If you do get symptoms, these usually appear between 1 and 3 weeks after having unprotected sex with an infected person. For some people they don't develop until many months later. Sometimes the symptoms can disappear after a few days.Having multiple sex partners increases the risk of bacterial vaginosis — an imbalance of vaginal bacteria that can cause pain and itching in women — but a new study suggests that being faithful to one partner may cause the infection to recur. Antibiotics can cure symptoms of BV in about 80 percent of women.
When will the signs and symptoms go away?
- Discharge or pain when you urinate should improve within a week.
- Bleeding between periods or heavier periods should improve by your next period.
- Pelvic pain and pain in the testicles should start to improve quickly but may take up to 2 weeks to go away.
Untreated, chlamydia can cause severe, costly reproductive and other health problems which include both short- and long-term consequences, including pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), which is the critical link to infertility, and potentially fatal tubal pregnancy. PID can scar and block the fallopian tubes.
