If you're like me and don't want to ditch your iPhone, you can trick Siri to launch the Alexa app: first say “Hey Siri, open the Alexa app,†unlock your iPhone, and then you should be able to ask Alexa to do things. You won't have to touch your iPhone if you've got Face ID; just give it a quick glance to unlock.
You may unsubscribe at any time. To use the new hands-free feature, your phone must be unlocked and opened to the Alexa app. You can then say the wake word to ask Alexa anything you need. The virtual assistant has already worked on the Alexa mobile app using the voice control button at the bottom of the app.
Use the Alexa app to pair your phone or Bluetooth speaker with your Echo Device.
- Put your Bluetooth device in pairing mode.
- Open the Alexa app .
- Select Devices .
- Select Echo & Alexa.
- Select your device.
- Select Bluetooth Devices, and then Pair A New Device.
On your iPhone, open the Settings app. Navigate to Bluetooth and open it.Say, “Alexa, pair†to put the Amazon Echo device in Bluetooth Pairing mode. With that command, Alexa should give you an audible acknowledgment that it is searching and confirm when your Echo device is in pairing mode.
While your car must support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for either of those services to work, an Echo Auto is fully functional in most vehicles without any special gear or attachments, and it works with both iOS and Android devices.
Just like Alexa, Siri can be summoned to turn on smart devices like lights and plugs, as well as adjust the thermostat, check if the garage door is open (then close it), and even control multiple homes from anywhere in the world.
One way to utilize Alexa without having internet access or a steady Wi-Fi connection is to
use your device as a Bluetooth speaker.
Using Alexa as a Bluetooth Speaker
- Open the Alexa application on your smartphone, select “Menu†and choose “Settingsâ€.
- Pick the device you would like to pair.
- Select Bluetooth.
Android usersInstall or update to the latest version of the Alexa app from the Google Play Store. ("Hey Google, open the Alexa app.") You may need to unlock your phone using face recognition or a passcode. With the Alexa app open, you can Alexa anything, set reminders, play music, etc.
How to add the Alexa widget to your Home screen
- On your iPhone or iPad Home screen, tap and hold any app icon, then tap Edit Home Screen.
- Tap the + button in the top-left corner.
- Scroll down to the list of available widgets and select Amazon Alexa.
- Tap the Add Widget button.
Luckily, you've got another option: Just text Alexa! All you've got to do is use your Amazon app on iPhone or Android. There, you can send commands to your Alexa-enabled devices.
So far, there is no reported evidence hackers are using devices like Echo to hack Amazon's servers. But there is no denying the fact that voice-assisted speakers can and do continue to be hacked.
Alexa isn't the only one you can talk to through your Echo device. The Alexa app supports Alexa-to-Alexa calling on an iPhone with iOS 9.0 or higher, and an Android phone with Android 5.0 or higher. With an Echo Show, you can place and receive video calls.
Making Alexa Your Default Android Assistant
- Go to Settings > Apps.
- Tap Choose default apps.
- Tap Digital assistant app.
- Tap Device assistant app.
- Select Amazon Alexa.
