A hub, also called a network hub, is a common connection point for devices in a network. Hubs are devices commonly used to connect segments of a LAN. The hub contains multiple ports. When a packet arrives at one port, it is copied to the other ports so that all segments of the LAN can see all packets.
HomeKit doesn't require you to purchase and configure a central hub, even if you have several dozen smart-home devices. All you need is your iOS device, Apple's Home app, and whatever HomeKit-compatible products you choose to start with.
What is a Google Home Hub? At a basic level, it's the next step in the Google Assistant, and it has the Assistant built in so you can use those voice commands while using the Hub. The Google Home Hub also has Chromecast and Bluetooth 5 built in, and is compatible with Android, iOS, Mac, Windows, and Chromebooks.
It is easy, and it involves just a few taps in the iOS Home app.
- Launch the Home app.
- Tap on the house icon located on the top left.
- Scroll down and tap on Hubs & Bridges.
- Review the list of HomeKit hubs assigned to your home. Connected status means that this device is currently acting as your HomeKit hub.
