The African lion, unfortunately, has been extinct in Arabia for the last 100 years, but there are still lions in Arabia. Admittedly they're tiny, but proportionately they are every bit as ferocious as the real thing—and a good deal smarter. They're called the ant-lions.

In order to survive in the wild, it is of paramount importance that tigers become accomplished hunters at a young age. Because tigers are solitary animals, each specimen has to be able to hunt and kill prey for its survival, since there is not a pack to support them.
They do this in order to keep their claws sharp so that hunting and tearing skin and meat off of their prey will be an easy task. Scratching the trees also keeps the claws clean and free from infection.
There is some positive news though, because after years of concern, the number of wild tigers in some areas does now seem to be rising. New figures by wildlife charity WWF suggest a resurgence in their numbers. Experts are even describing it as a "remarkable comeback".
Some of the figures that helped compose the 2016 number represent the lowest number in an estimated range, including Indonesia, with an estimated 371 tigers; Malaysia (250); Thailand (189); and Bangladesh (106). China, Vietnam and Laos showed single digit numbers.
Poaching is the illegal killing of an animal. Tigers are poached for two main reasons: their threat or perceived threat to wildlife and/or people and monetary gain. However, tigers are mainly poached for their bones and other body parts which are in great demand for traditional Chinese medicines.
Currently, there's no federal U.S. ban on owning tigers, dangerous animals or exotic pets, according to the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge. In an amazing show of progress for wildlife, Nepal is on track to become the first of the world's countries to double its wild tiger population since 2010. According to results from the country's most recent tiger survey, there are now an estimated 235 wild tigers, nearly twice the number of tigers counted in 2009.
The tiger, one-horned rhino, golden langur, clouded leopard, hispid hare and the sloth bear live in the lush tropical lowland and hardwood forests in the south. In the temperate zone, grey langur, tiger, common leopard, goral and serow are found in mixed conifer, broadleaf and pine forests.
The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) was established in December 2005 following a recommendation of the Tiger Task Force, constituted by the Prime Minister of India for reorganised management of Project Tiger and the many Tiger Reserves in India.
Starting as early as 2000 with the first camera trap image of a tiger at 3000masl in Phrumsengla National Park, and later at 4200masl in Jigme Dorji National Park (JDNP) in 2012, and with numerous high altitude records in between, tigers in Bhutan are increasingly being known as mountain tigers.
Around 300–500 tigers are estimated in Bangladesh, 220–274 tigers in Nepal and 103 tigers in Bhutan. The tiger is estimated to be present in the Indian subcontinent since the Late Pleistocene, for about 12,000 to 16,500 years.
There are now 5,000-6,000 tigers kept in more than 200 facilities across China. Among these are huge-scale farming operations, including the Harbin Siberian Tiger Park, and Xiongsen Bear and Tiger Mountain Village in Guangxi, each of which now hold more than 1,000 tigers.
