The 2020 Stanley Cup Finals was the championship series of the National Hockey League's (NHL) 2019–20 season and the culmination of the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs. The series was contested between the Eastern Conference champion Tampa Bay Lightning and the Western Conference champion Dallas Stars.

A round robin is a scheduling system where three or more teams are in a tournament or playoff. This is opposed to the single elimination system which is used in the Stanley Cup playoffs, for example, where teams play only one opponent at a time.
Qualifying Round series are best-of-five and will be contested between the teams seeded 5th through 12th in each conference. The winners of those series will join the top four teams from each conference, who will play round robin games to determine seeding, in the traditional 16-team Stanley Cup Playoffs format.
In the Stanley Cup Final, the team with the higher regular season points percentage will be designated as the home team in Games 1, 2, 5 and 7. The team with the lower regular season points percentage will be designated as the home team in Games 3, 4 and 6.
